Well a new install on a new HD and nothing in windows seems to work. For instance, after booting it takes about 5 minutes to generate the shortcuts in" my computer". The CD player prog will not work just crashes sys. Same with all the windows stuff. All the other programs I have loaded have worked perfect. Never had this prob before. Sys is a backup machine. BCM mobo (excellent board) 64 megs ram. IDT 240 processor , have had this combo for over a year and no probs until new install.

#1. Are there any chipset drivers or a patch that is normally loaded when installing software for theis motherboard chipset?
#2. I sounds like there might be a resource conflict, possible with the drives.
Can you get into the Device Manager? How does it look?

Well the device manager does not show any conflicts. I have decided to install win 98 but havent figured that out either. It looks like I may have to low level format the HD. Will Delete tree allow me to install win 98? I have the full install CD and not the upgrade.

When you install win98 it will ask you if you want to do a safe recovery, if you dont want to keep the old windows select no, and it will write over the old windows.
rename win.com in the windows directory to something like win.old, then start the install process.
When 98 comes up with the location it is going to install to select the other location button and tell it to install to the windows directory.
It should go like a charm, but if you are having problems with 95 you may just want to fdisk and start fresh.

I personally would suggest that you backup any personal data you want or need to keep and then do a full formating of the drive and Then install Win98. That way you dont have anything "old" on the drive to cause headaches.

Vampiel:
Well when I tried that went along for a while and the told me that I already had a operating sys did not give me any safe recovery option.
What do I use to FDISK and Format the drive can I use the startup disk from 95? or can I create a boot disk from the CD?
Lots of questions
