Hi, Hoping someone can help,
Have a Acer 486DX2. On fire up shows
486DX2 BIOS V1.2R.5
Then does a memory count up shows 034680 kb memory good, etc then evenually after several lines about keyboards, disketees ports it says there is a memory Mismatch?? then finally gets down to say
'press F1 to continue or ctrl_Alt_Esc to enter setup'
However despite pressing F1 or Ctrl_Alt_Esc nothing further happens. Thats the end of the line.
The computer was running although sometimes on fire up the screen would go all like scrambled eggs or would light up but be just a lot of vertical lines and at these times there sometimes would be no beeps. I have changed the Ram but this has made little difference to it. A friend says the motherboard is faulty. I have checked the battery and its 2.92volts.
The motherboard has 'Made in Tiwan' on it but no other identification marks.I cannot find anything on it where a external battery could plug into as this one appears to be soldered in.
The M/B has 8 Isa slots with 2 of these being also vesa slots.
I have had it running win95 and office97 but it just refused to run a sound card as I have tried both a Isa and pci cards and it just refused to get of bed after I tried these. At that stage it would only recognise 4nb ram.
The ram (72pin simms) slots are marked 1-2-3-0 from one side and at present I have 36mb?? in the middle 2 slots (2&3)
Would appreciate if someone can help me get past the above non operative messages ??
Thanks

Try moving the memory to slots 0 & 1, if that doesn't work than try 1 & 2. Make sure that they are properly seated. Crazy video could be indication of bad driver/or/card. If moving mem doesn't correct situation, then I would try clearing CMOS, and starting over, attempting to install various sound cards could have caused IRQ conflicts and the system is confused (like us) /forum/wink.gif

thank you for your reply Topflite.
I changed the ram around and it fired up ok later while trying to configure it, It locked up again and again by changing the ram around it would fire up again ???? But after loading win95 now says only 4mb ram ??.
Ram is now in slots 3 & 2.
This computer seems to have a mind of its own.
Oh yes the ram slots go 3,2,1,0, Still not sure which way around they should go. Also the ram has no parity. Would this make a difference ???
Thanks
