mcafee doesn't delete out all the way thru add/remove pgms on XP machine.
creates script errors on reboot, immediate network dialup logon even after software removal and updated mcafee software won't load...
backed up registry, attempted to delete specifics to mcafee...no go.
needing suggestions to make a complete delete of mcafee so that more appropriate antivirus software can be installed.

You havent mentioned which version of mcafee nor whether its the security suite, firewall or just a stand alone AV scanner or the mcafee anit-spyware scanner

i removed mcafee secuirty suite and after u have uninstalled it you DONT go straight to the registry or you WILL get errors.

what u should do is:
goto start-run-msconfig and uncheck the mcaffee run at startup keys.

DONT restart yet

Still in msconfig goto SERVICES - hide all microsoft services and then uncheck the 2 mcaffee ones running (if any more mcafee then uncheck these)

restart comp.

goto c: - program files and delete the mcafee folder (all contents should now delete as not active). Now back up your registry. Now is the time to remove the old mcafee links (a good registry cleaner would remove these broken links for you anyways if u have one to run). There will still be few files in system32 folder but you need not worry about those, because on next re-boot none of the exe or dlls will be able to run so they wont interfere.

and that should be it. This is the easiest way to do it rather than picking pieces apart individually. You can now install new av software
