Anyone ever encounter this error message while attempting to boot from a floppy before?

VFAT Device initialization failed
"A device or resource required by VFAT is not present or is unavailable. VFAT can not continue loading. System halted."

I'm getting this message just prior to windows loading. After reformatting, my comp still will not boot from a floppy. Same disk as before, and same os. Windows 95b.

Anyone have any idea what this VFAT is all about and how to solve this problem?
TIA

Nathan's has this error in his list. Scroll down to 'Windows Protection & Some Other Errors" and you'll see 'VFAT Device Initiation Failed' and it'll link you to the MS article. Good luck!

Edit: Actually there's two VFAT listings there, you may want to check them both...

Thank you Socalgal for your response to my post. Both links lead to the MS knowledge base articles where I have been several times before with this problem concerning VFAT errors. I have already tried the solutions offered by those articles without any success.

While doing a search at another bbs, I ran across a post where someone has had the same problem as I am having, and they tried all the same things I've tried without any success. Finally this person solved the problem by having to fdisk their drive using the /mbr switch.

The next time I have to reformat I'll give that a try. Thanks for your help /forum/smile.gif

Just for the record, FAT means File Allocation Table and the fdisk /mbr means fdisk /Master Boot Record if you have a dual-boot utility, doing that is the only way to get rid of it, also only way to get rid of some virii.
