Hmm, I'm setting up a wireless ad-hoc network between my laptop and my buddy's laptop.

I have a Broadcom integrated adapter that does b/g and he has an Athenos integrated adapter that does b/g. Both of our laptops have that speed-booster technology that can get wireless up to 108Mbps.

Why is ad-hoc limited to 802.11b (11Mbps) only?

Is there anything I can do to get us up to at least 802.11g speeds for ad-hoc?

Thanks,

Hey
I don't know any limitation that Ad-Hoc connection has regarding the connection speed.
Have you check the setting on both computers ?
Did you set them both to work on g ?

since Broadcom and Atheros use completely different chips, their "speed booster" technologies are different.

manually limit to 802.11g compatibility and NOT the speed booster option.

There is no spec limitation to .11b association, CCK modulation. As mentioned, start with G only or you can even try G hybrid but the default setting is probably going to be the deal here.
