My Win98 makes intermittent, short stutters. This is especially noticable when typing in text into various editors - Word, Visual Studio, IE, etc. This is especially irritating because the screen does not keep up with my typing, leading me to believe that I miskeyed. Any ideas?

1. FIC 503+ (MVP3 chipset)
2. AMD K6-450
3. Ati Xpert98 AGP Video Card
4. Diamond MX300 Sound card
5. 2 WD hard drives
6. IDE CD Rom
7. IDE CD Changer (going to rid myself of this thing soon)
8. Diamond FirePort 40 SCSI with (Ricoh 1420c CD Burner, Scanner and Zip Drive)
9. 128 Meg SDRam
10 McAfee Virus Scan 4.03 or something like that running - killing it didn't make a difference
11. PCI Modem and/or ISA USR modem (tried both)
12. ISA 16 bit sound card with only game port enabled because the MX300 does not work with my controller (Thrustmaster Rage 3D)

I've seen similar complaints from other people on other boards with Intel Chips and chipsets.

Thanks - Howie

And here I just thought I typed faster than the computer could put it on the screen....

I don't know of a work-a-round, but whenever it does it to me, I just stop typing for a sec or two. Besides, I like watching it catch up to me.

see what your configuration is for your typematic rate setting in bios, set it to a fast speed and see if that does anything.

First of all get rid of your CD changer.... If it's still doing the same thing, make sure there's nothing on your CD-ROM drive (the other CD-ROM you have) and then if nothing happened, hmmmmmmmm...... Get a new board I guess...
