hey there

My monitor is a Gateway EV700 (17"). it has begun to dimm to an ugly shade of purple. I can turn it off and back on and it is fine. I know this is probaby a sign of immenent death /forum/frown.gif. Is there anything I can do to prolong it's life?

I disabled my power saving features in my BIOS and turn off the monitor when my system is not being used (by anything but RC5). Please let me know.

thanks a bunch- Dave

is it still under warranty? gateway was real nice the one time i had to call them for a monitor return.

otherwise... use your remaining monitor life to research a good new monitor. /forum/smile.gif

p.s. - i wouldn't open up the monitor if i were you. they can carry a lethal voltage and the capacitors will hold it for awhile even after its been unplugged.

If it is out of warranty and you have another, good monitor CABLE around, try installing it. (Assuming that's within your level of skills). Just make sure the pin/connectors are the same. A faulty cable/poor cable connections can produce some strange video.

/forum/smile.gif Change the cable? Is there a how-to for that? /forum/smile.gif Thanks for the advice. I haven't tried that yet even though I should have. Thanks.

Sounds like one of your color guns is bad.If you live near a large city, repair shops will fix it for around $80.However,they may say it's beyond repair and charge you $35-40 service charge.Take your chances.....DawgTuff.

WOOHOO!!!!!
Gateway is GREAT! It is still unbelievably under warranty and they are shipping a new one within a week- for free! I couldn't find any of my info since I sold the original CPU that the monitor went with. Now they are taking care of it! I have not said this before because I thought I overspent, but now I love Gateway!

Its a shame we live in a throw away society. today. I have a monitor, (I replaced it) that tumbles , on the old TV set we would have adjusted the verticle hold, now due to a part that probably costs a buck or two, the whole thing goes to an already overflowing land fill. costs to much to fix it. /forum/frown.gif

I made that suggestion because I recently had a very nice monitor go purple on me. I thought the green gun had failed, but it turned out to be only the cable.

Does gateway sell refurb equipment like dell and sony? I see a lot of places doing that- hopefully dave's dying monitor will become someone else's replacement.

I found out my monitor will be refurbed (only fair I guess). I assume they will either replace the gun or cable and send mine out too. It shouldn't hit the landfill. /forum/smile.gif
