What is the proper way to maintain our computer system?

Well, just make sure that your proccesor is running at a cool temperature that is safe for you CPU, depending on what your setup is, is what a safe temp is, on average make sure that it is under 50c to be safe. Make sure that all of your drivers are installed properly, do not run to many programs at once especially if you have under 128mb memory (TRY NOT TO RUN WINAMP WITH ANOTHER MEMORY HOGGER SUCH AS GRAPHICAL PROGS/GAMES OPEN WITH UNDER 128mb ram). Make sure that you keep at least 100mb free on the HD with your swap file on it (to find out were your swap file is, right click on my computer and goto virtual memory tab). If you run windows then your system will crash regardless of what you do, but that will decrease the crashes. Also make sure that you have ownloaded all the patches for all of your devices and they are properly installed.

For anyone to answer that, some clarification is needed.
What is your system, and include some details.

What type of maintenance do you mean? Hardware maintenance or software/ file system maintenance?

since they write unabridged dictionary-sized books about the subject, you're going to have to be VERY specific.

otherwise, buy a good book -- it'll save you in the long run.

Regularly run Scan-disk, Defrag, and change the CPU oil.

Add an up to date antivirus program.

And get some compressed air, and blow that thing out really good once in awhile. You'd be amazed how much dust can get into a case.

CPU oil?

Yeah cpu oil! I use synthetic. It speeds up the system. Good to change it once a year. And don't let it get more than 20cc low either. Might burn up the bearings. I also like to drill bigger holes in the wiring so more electricity can go through. Oh, and one more thing, dunk the whole thing in a bathtub full of jello once; it makes all the moving parts taste really good. Ha

Say, that cpu oil is a REAL idea. Ever looked at Dr.Freeze's page. His whole pc minus the drives is submerged in mineral oil within a styrofoam cooler. Has a/c coils in the oil bath.
I hope nobody took the oil thing seriously, but now the hole-drilling is another story. /forum/wink.gif

My personal faverite is the jello bath.

I prefer lime w/marshmallows.

You should pick it up and shake it as hard as you can once every month. It helps check for loose parts.

er....maybe not

A kids soft toothbrush works good in all those hard to reach places, too. /forum/wink.gif Like heatsinks and fans.
