Alrighty. Here's my problem. Normally, when you install a program, the Program menu option for that program is alphabetized. (i.e.
Accessories
Baldur's Gate
Windows Explorer)
However, this no longer works and seems to come and go when I ever have to reinstall Windows. Now, and programs installed are just listed at the bottom of the Program menu, not put in order. I know I can manually move them, but I'd like to figure out how to permanantly put it back the way it was. I can't seem to find any obvious option to change this. Although it's prolly staring me in the face...

I also have this problem with DOS. Before Windows 98, and going back to DOS 5.0, all DOS <dir> listings would be in order. Even from a Windows DOS box. Now, only directories that were around before I installed 98 are still in order. So I'll have say DOS diorectory in order, but many of the others on the SAME drive will just have programs and directories in no particular order. Does anyone know how to put this right?

I remember someone telling me a while back about aadding something to autoexec or config sys. However, I don't ever recall this being "the way it was" when the directories were all organized many moons ago.

Open up the start menu, programs, right click an item in it, select sort by name. Thanks to someone else here who mentioned this tip not long ago.

Doh! As I said, it was prolly staring me right in the face. And to think I was searching every option in the control panel and just about every OTHER place than where it was. Thanks for that info! Very much!
