Out of nowhere my serial mouse has stopped working. windows crashes at the beginning trying to load the mouse drivers. Now I must use my really old ps/2 mouse to get the computer up and running. works fine with the ps/2 mouse installed but when I put in my nice scrolling serial mouse in it just crashes. Got my other serial mouse and put in and windows again crashes. Help please because I kinda need my scrolling mouse. since this ps/2 doesn't move very well and I need the scrolling for the my games(hehe). Your expertise would be greatly appreciated. tried to pick mouse drivers manually from the windows\inf folders but again no good. but I'm thinking this isn't a mouse driver problem because it doesn't work in safe mode either.

Couple of thoughts. Have you tried using the serial port for any thing other than the mouse? Does it work? Maybe a port problem and not a mouse problem.

Can you try your mouse on second comm port?

good luck

correction, my ps/2 mouse doesn't work. the serial port one does work. the ps/2 keyboard works though but only when I boot with the serial mouse connected. if the ps/2 mouse is installed while loading the keyboard doesn't work also and everthing freezes. weird but I guess this is computers.

is it my motherboard that is broken. i thought maybe it was the connector to the ps/2 mouse but my ps/2 keyboard connector which is right next to it works fine. which one does windows initiate first? I believe the mouse since windows tries to sense the mouse and it doesn't the keyboard doesn't initiate. when the keyboard is only connected I get the windows has not sensed a pointer device and when i have a nouse connected I don't get that message. so I think the port is fine.
