I'm considering burning movies into svcd

a question that has been bugging me for a long time is

If i have a 700mb, 80minuete cdr

The actual video file that i import to burn, what is the maximum minuetes or file size that i can add so that it is perfect... cause i know svcd needs atleast 10mb or something extra...

does anyone know the actual numbers, because i want to split video files but i'd like to split at the maximum allowed capacity for a cdr to use it up more

That'll depend solely on YOUR selection of MPEG encoding quality. It's your choice to choose a higher data reduction or a higher image quality. MPEG is not compressing, it is actually reducing the amount of data at the expense of image quality. The balance between the two is adjustable. Your choice which is more important to you.

SVCD's and VCD's are recorded "mode-2". The 700mb rating on your CD is "mode-1". A 700mb (mode-1) CD can actually hold approximately 800mb when recorded "mode-2". I do not remember the exact number but I believe it was somewhere between 796mb and 798mb. Therefore I would suggest that to be on the safe size you limit the size of your MPEG-2 file to no more than 790mb.
