With my ASUS p3b-f I've got my 450 overclocked at 600 by using 133 bus speed. It works beautifully. The other day I purchased a device that plugs between the keyboard. It can be programmed by downloading the file through the keyboard port. When I called the vendor to ask why I could not download it, they told me that I need to lower my bus speed. I did. And it worked. However, when I brought the bus speed up to 133mhz, I blew my hard drive--which forced me to do a clean reinstall of win98. I would like to know if there's a safe way to raise or lower the bus speed without blowing the hard drive. thanks.tc

Hello Tony,

Regarding the "bus speed/ hard drive" issue I can give a suggestion, but as for the rest of your post about some device theat "plugs between the keyboard" I have no idea what you are talking about but I am very curious.

You might try disabling UDMA in BIOS, in fact, you could set the PIO mode for the hard disk down to PIO 3 and that should give you a margin of safety. However, when you are working with bus speeds that are outside of the hardware's recommended parameters there is no "guarantee" of any "safe" method. I would highly suggest creating an emergency recover disk using a program like Microsoft "ERU," which should be on your Windows CD. That way you could probably have saved the hard disk without having to format and reinstall the OS.

Check your MB settings or bios for PCI clock frequency. Doubt it's variable, but worth a look.
Normally, the PCI runs at 1/2 or 1/3 CPU speed, so at 133 you're running at 44.3 mhz on PCI, well above it's 33mhz rating. Some drives just can't do this.
Also running everything else at above normal speeds, like the ram and video. Got to have high quality stuff for this!!

As to the "device" connected between the keyboard and the port, it's a Quickshot Master Pilot unit. thanks for the advice.tony
