ok, I'm thinking about getting the EPOX MVP3G2 or 5and which has the capability of ATA/66, right now I have MVP3C ( new mobo from EPOX not the C2 ) and it only has the ATA/33.. My question is, is the 33mbps on new HD be a factor and is there really a big difference on speed if I use ATA/33 on ATA/66 motherboard??? Please let me know.. And also is the MVP3C ok enough for a motherboard? I run K6-2 450 mhz on this board.. Thanks..

I'm looking at DMA 66 also, but haven't pulled the trigger & bought yet. However my research has made one thing clear-get the 2 Mg buffer, not 512k. Bigger the better. The buffer seems to speed a 33 along better than a 66 at 512k. Go big buffer & 66 is my advice.
also, I'm having no luck finding a mb for amd 450 or so that supports the 66, so until one comes out that I like I will probably run a 66 at 33 with 2 megs for now.
Good luck....

I have the MVP3G2,upgraded from the mvp3g and a wd 10.1gb to the MVP3G2 and a maxtor 7200 rpm ATA66.
The performance increase was incredible!
Although I think most of was due to the 7200rpm's and the fact the drive has a 2mb buffer in it than the ata66.
Although 66 is double the 33's speed the drive only reaches that capacity around 10% of the time.
Blue's News had a link to a real good article on how ata66 performs and why it does not run at 66mbs all the time.It was a coupla weeks back but I will see if I can dig it up.
