I have an ACER6x2, and when I make backup copies of CD's it wil only make half tracks!!!! What is the deal?
I have a PIIIw128 megs of ram, and am using Adaptec direct CD software. I am trying to burn at 2x, but I get the same results no matter what speed I burn at.

A bit more information would be helpful such as make, model, how much ram, what type of software you are using to burn with, are you copying from another CD or from the harddrive. What speed are you trying to burn at ect.

My first helpful hints would be to make sure you have disabled
Screensavers
antivirus scanning during burning
start your burn and LEAVE IT ALONE UNTIL DONE. (this is very important on IDE burners) even just moving the mouse around can cause problems!

Hate to say it but the burner could be bad. Had a friend who sounded like he had similar problems. He had to get it replaced.

One thing you could try that might let you know if its a coaster maker or not. Take a blank CD-RW (so you wont waste anymore blanks) and try all the different settings and try burning to see if you can get any successful burns. Also what program are you using to burn with? Try a couple different ones. Try using Adaptec EZ CD, Nero, NTI CD Maker Pro, or even CRDWin.

If none of these work, you might wanna call your tech support and see about a replacement.

Hi. Check with your CD-RW manufacturer and determine if the CD-Rs are compatible with your writer. I'm embarrassed to admit that I purchased 100 Imation CD-Rs for my Memorex CD-RW, and 90+ of the Imations are sitting in the box because of a compatibility issue. Proprietary nonsense!

Good advice above: set all sleep mode/shut down modes to "Never," i.e., monitor, HD. If you don't, the timers are running in the background sucking memory. Also, press Ctrl + Alt + Del and disable all uneccessary background programs. This is especially true when copying Audio. (Which you may need to convert to wave files, load on HD, then write to CD-R). Having fun yet? Don't worry, you'll work it out. And like another poster wrote, practice with a CD-RW disc.

Good luck!

Well I've had the same problem on my MEMOREX CDR drive, and solved it by getting to the Memorex website, download the patch and use NTI CD MAKER Pro v3.6.8 and also I used a MEMOREX and VERBATIM cd-r media.. Now I dunno which one solved my problem, but I know it is solved... Don't give up on your CDR it's just a compatibility issue and/or cd-r media.. /forum/wink.gif try to get into your CDR-makers site and find if they have a new patch for it and also use only the good brand cdr-media.. I mean those generic cd-r media are cheap, but if they're goin into trash, you'll find out how expensive it is.. Coz on mine I tried to use smart and friendly and they all are in the trash now :P ... *Tip* download NTI CD MAKER pro out of their site and try to burn your CD-RW media... /forum/biggrin.gif
