Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : What should I upgrade next???
I was wondering if any of you have suggestions as to what upgrade would benefit my computer the most or get the most "bang for the buck" so to speak. I was thinking probably either the ram or the cpu.
Here's my setup:
AMD K6-2 300MHz
FIC VA503+ mb w/ 250W PS case
64 MB PC100 RAM (which is only running as SDRAM cuz it's generic)
Diamond Stealth SII 220 4MB
Diamond Monster II 12MB
Western Digital 8.4GB (ATA33)
Monster Sound M80
Kenwood 40x CDROM (sent in for repairs twice!)
MAG DX1795 17" monitor
3Com Etherlink III ISA 3C509b
Win 98
Thanks.

I agree with the CPU to be upgraded as well, go here : www.pricewatch.com
I suggest an ATHLON 500mgz THEY ROCK!!! The athlon 500mgz OUT RAN A PIII 650!!!!!!! now if that isnt amazing I dont know what is go here : www.anandtech.com/index.cfm for the reviews of this.. ITS TRUE!! I found an ATHLON 500 CPU for $195 at that web site and a MB for it for a little over 100bux (I think it was 120) All the other athlons are MEGA expensive though. I saw one site selling an athlon 700 for 999bux YEA RIGHT all the rest were selling it around 700.

CPU very cheap now, memory very high. I should think the K6-III 400 for under $100 would be one heck of an upgrade.

k63 under 100bux?? where
Definately the CPU. You've got a good, versatile MB which will accept the faster amd's, just decide how much you want to spend.
Now for the most bang for your buck, just overclock what you've got! cost = free
When RAM gets cheaper that should be your next move. You'd see a real gain with 128mb, but go to 256 & be done for a while

You can get a K6-3 400 mhz at www.atacom.com for 88 bucks! Yup, you'll love yourself if you go and get one.
