Just made a network joining two computers. I thought everything was set up ok but now I find when connect to the inernet through the second computer, Zonealarm which is installed on the first computer blocks the internet connection.

Its difficult to know where to start because I am not sure about networking. I do know that ZOnealarm is the software stopping the internet connection as without I can browse the internet from the second computer. I could alter the Firewall tab; zones tab to trusted rather than internet but I think that would make having the firewall pointless.

I had this same problem with an earlier version of ZA. Even with ZA set to allow the correct IP range it wouldn't allow the client machine internet access.

So I switched to Sygate firewall and that fixed the problem.

This is the most recent version of Zonealarm. You answered the question I was wondering about setting up the IP addresses rather than auto assign which is currently set. It looks like I will have to disable zonealarm when joining the two.

I think you only need to re-install zone alarm

When u set zone alarm up it askes if it is a single computer or part of a network and from there you should be able configure it.

Try updating with newest version so u dont loose previous settings and choose networked pc

Just uninstall and reinstall ZA. That will do the trick.

Uninstalled Zone alarm and reinstalled it and no go. Zone alarm still blocks interent connection. The computer can dial up the connection but cannot recieve any data from the internet. And to check I shut down zone alarm and I can start browsing the net on both conputers. Like the linked page Midknyte supplied Zonealarm is not fully compatible with ICS, but the Pro version is, hmmm.

XP firewall won't block any services\programs from accessing the net & won't notify you when they do! It only blocks incoming connections.

Sygate Personal Firewall has a free version and does the job well enough.
