Okee dokes. I've got myself a new motherboard I'm installing. It's a Eurone 7015s. Yeah, yeah. Cheap and older. But it's an AT board and it saved me from getting a new case. Haw! Anyway, I'm looking to pick up a DIMM or 2. However I can't seem to find any information on exactly what kind of memory will work. The board supports 3.3 and 5v DIMMs with a jumper. But for the life of me, I can't find any references that say "Yes, you can use PC-100 memory or no you can't." I've had people tell me "Yes, you can, but you won't get the effects of the 100 mhz speed." that'd be fine if I actually trusted the folks who told me this. But store employees don't inspire much confidence in me lately. The board specs are even less help. You'd think they'd say that you can use "any kind of 168 pin DIMMS" or "You can use X and X but not X 168 pin DIMMS" So, does anyone know what I can and can't use? I really don't care if I don't get the full effect of PC-100 memory as long as it works. I'll just pop those chips in the next motherboard I get which will most likely be an ATX board sometime in the future and then I'll get the full effect. The Eurone 7015 is basically the same as the PCChips m715 and the Amptron 7015-7016(or something like that) and Zeus knows how many other boards...

Yes you can use Pc-100 Dimms and if the FSb is set to 100MhZ it will show the full effect of the PC-100 Dimms. I don't know who told you that you couldn't use PC-100 Dimms but they didn't know their stuff very well

Thanks for the info. Something I forgot to add and which might make a big difference is that the bus is 66mhz on the board. Will the chips still work?

The Intel 440EX AGPset supports a 66 MHz system memory bus.

You should get the full effects of the memory, just for the record the only thing that is different between an AT and an ATX, is ATX has a 8bit as well as 16bit interface for the ISA slots, AT only has an 8bit, EVERYTHING else is exactly the same.

Alrighty. Thanks for all of the information! The memory works just fine. I had to pick up 2 32 meg chips instead of 1 64 meg because they were out of that one. Eh... And, after getting the board, I notice that it's a PcChips m715. Hah! I love the fact that there are about 3 or 4 versions of this board around being sold by different companies. Makes it fun trying to figure what you bought. It was posted as an Amptron on Pricewatch. Said it was a Eurone on the site and it's really a PcChips. If nothing else, I'm happier it's actually a PcChips sold board and not from one of the other 2 companies. Not that it'd make a lick of difference, but I do usually like to get goodies from upstream. Also, all 3 of the companies have darn near the same board. I think the Amptron has 2 less 72 pin Simm slots though. (Not like the 72 pin slots liked my old memory!) Heck, I might as well go into detail here. I got the board. It wouldn't work. Sent it back, (and I got a call back within an hour of receiving it by the way! That's a good turn around for ya!) They got it to work. Then I told them to use SIMMs as they were using DIMMs. Now it wouldn't work, heh. None of the others would either. Called the company. Board is picky picky picky. So I tell em to send me a new one back just in case. Got it, no go. So I just got the PC 100 chips. Much better in the long run anyways. 60ns 16 meg chips and 2 old 4 meg 70s chips just won't cut it in the near future. The new board also didn't like the connector cables from the Soyo 5VC board I was replacing. So I yanked off the cables from a couple cards from the original board in this box, a 486 board. They worked... Strange, but hey, this thing is great so I'm not complaining. But that bit of info may help someone who thinks their mouse or modem don't work. Try different cables! I also got a great(in my opinion. I'm not used to getting anything with cheaper boards!) cd with the board. It had a antivirus program on it(PcCillin) So I load it up, go check out the PCCillin website and lo and behold, since I own this older version(98) I'm allowed a FREE upgrade to the newest program, version 6. Whatta deal there! I tend to think the cd was meant for OEMs as it has drivers for a LOT of different boards including VGA drivers and sound drivers. Of course they may have just packed everything onto one cd to save the hassle. The Celeron 400 performs wonderfully. It's a PPGA so I got a daughtercard with a MASSIVE amount of overclocking ability. This thing has scores of jumpers on it! Not to mention a bank of switches as well! And since it's PPGA, I get to use it in 2 kinds of motherboards(with and without the daughtercard) Can ya tell I'm happy? For 124 dollars, I couldn't have gotten a better deal... Even an AGP slot...1x, but I'm not complaining... Well, that's enough from me!
