I went out and bought another new hard drive because I'm going to upgrade my other PC, and I still can't fdisk the **** thing. I'm using a Win98 start up disk that I made off of my other PC. When it asks me to contiue using FAT32 it dumps me back to the a: prompt no matter if I choose Y or N. I've built many a PC and have never experienced this before. It can't be the hard drives because I've tried both now, one a brand new Fujitsu and one a brand new WD. Neither came with a install disk. I've always just fdisked in the past and rolled with it. BIOS is auto detecting both disks and they are reading correctly at post. What the heck is going on with this. My last hair on my head is frightend for it's life! Please help. It kills me that I have a $1500 PC that won't work. Oh, by the way, when I do a fdisk /status it says that there is no fixed disk availble. Bios is reading it though. Ugh! And also before you say it, I've checked the HDD jumpers a hundred times. They are correct. Master on primary IDE.

-The new drive may be an ATA66 drive. If your system doesn't have an ATA66 IDE controller, either on the motherboard or as an addition, the ATA66 feature of the drive should be disabled. This is usually done with a bootable system diskette that has the needed utility on it. Fujitsu should supply this at their site.

-Try making another system diskette from Dos instead of Windows. And try the Fdisk utility from this diskette.

-Try a system diskette made from an older version of 98 or Win95 instead.

-The Bios of your motherboard may also need to be updated. Some Bios' don't have problems when an ATA66 drive is installed, however, others do.
