Can someone please tell me what would be the safest temperature for AMD K6-2 450 MHZ?? And also how hot can it go?? I need to set my bios to the warning level temperature and re-boot ( panic ) level... And I was thinking about overclocking my K6-2 too, I just wanted to get an advice or if someone who has the same specs as my comp. and until how much MHZ??
info on my comp.
AMD K6-2 core 2.4 volts
Epox MVP3C mobo
And also where can I get a good fan?? Or is there something than I can put between my CPU and my heatsink ( something like gel ),
where can I get it and how is it called??
Thank you guys in advance..
I would set the warning @ 60C which is the limits to CPU should take. Most systems will lock-up around that temp and for a Heatsink/Fan combo I would recommend either the Alpha or Lil MoFo by Globalwin which can be found @ http://www.3dfxcool.com/
The stuff that you put between the CPU and heatsink is called Thermal Compound which is used sparingly (thin layer). There is also Thermal Tape which does not work as well.
You might also try starting the Voltage on your CPU @ 2.2v and work your way up

Thank you so much LED... That was very informative... =) I wonder if there is a maximum temperature for the CPU??? And does the thermal compund really works??? All info is very much welcome and appreciated... thank you..
The max temp I read somewhere for the AMD k6 CPU is 60C for warranty purposes and yes Thermal compound does work with just a paper thin layer. The purpose is for it to make direct contact. The CPU has micro pits on ot's suface and the compound give a direct smooth contact between the heatsink and CPU surface for heat transfer.

the heat transfer past can be found at radioshack 99 cents fans also but not the 3 wire fan for m/bs that support fan speed mesurement microcenter has those

running a p2 333@500 and I put a lot of thermal paste between it. The casing is off and when I remove the processsor the thermal paste seems to have dried up become very hard. does it kind of loosen up when it heats up cuz I keep on taking the dried pste off and reapplying a good amount. maybe I'll apply less and see if it works better. current at 2.32 volts and around 30 celcius.

Using more than just enough paste to smooth the surface contact (onion paper layer) is self-defeating.

The maximum factory rated temperature on K6-2 450's is 65C/150F
