Since I installed software for a Diamond Rio MP3 player I've been getting these errors:

1. "A required file MFC42.DLL was not found"

2. "Error loading 3dfxCmn.dll One of the libraries needed to run the application cannot be found".

Help!

Sounds like you have a couple of corrupted files or you have mistakenly deleted them at some point or another.

The first one you can restore using the "SFC" if your using win98 or you will have to manually extract that file from your win95 cab files.

the second one is also used by the VooDoo vid cards by 3dfx. Do you have this card? if so you need to reinstall the drivers. (dont know why the Diamond Rio player would need the 3dfx file but if it asks for it...give it to it! /forum/biggrin.gif

Hi again Chuck

Are you running Win98? Start Menu/Run/SFC (in the command box) and use the Extract option for the MFC42.DLL - have your Win98 disk handy.

Or, you can try to download MFC42.DLL here check for the correct size & version.

solo.abac.com/dllarchive/ (http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/)

As for the 3dfxCmn.dll, that one isn't a Windows System file, so it must be specific to some soft you have...

Hope this helps some!

~~Edit; Oops! I had reply window open so long I didn't see you there Mntsnow! /forum/smile.gif

An excellent resource for system files and drivers is;

www.windrivers.com

They should be able to provide you with both files, iffin you still need them.
