hey SK8erboy... I just sent you a private message about your inquiry as to the monitor... I made some changes you should take a look at..
Also, that was quite funny although not to those parties concerned about the other thread... it happens. Live and learn and you are not the one at fault.
Your system is by all accounts just awesome..... I mean AWESOME! A 7800 VC?? WOW! Just a nicwe overall selection of choices there....
Can't wait to hear back from you when you finally get it all pieced together up and running. Yeah happy gaming or whatever you are going to do with it.

This is ture. AMD products are alot more inexpencive then Intel. and AMD out performs Intel. so you get the better product for cheaper. :) cool huh? AMD products are simply the best for gaming. now if you wanted just a buisness computer or something like that. Intel has alittle bit (very little) much of a performance. AMD is mainly known for gaming. but they are soo much better CPU's.

Well, here's how I see it.
17" Viewsonic = better picture
19" Acer = Bigger viewing area (the monitor itself is bigger)
So is it worth the extra $50 to get a bigger monitor? I know I would, but that's your call. :t

Ok .. here we go again.. since i just deleted my private message folder contents so orhers can now send message if they wish... ( I deleted some last night and so I don't understand about this forum ..something was wrong there... ( it said I had 70 messages..which is impossible ) ... anyways...
i will use this post to anser your question...
The Acer model is ok and a good company and product for the 19" budget ( meaning not the highest end one they produce ), but stil agood LCD and it got very good reviews..
The other one I was looking at ( and I checked them all ) was the 'Advueu' which was the other one I mispelled earlier. it is even bettter for about $285.00 and is black with a 19" screen viewable area. Even though this one is about $30 more or so.. I think it is the better one by far. The experts reviewers have them as one of the best makers out there.. again the reviews were very good and even better for playing games and the specs are a bit better also.
one model has speakers built in and I think they have one without speakers..basicly the same monitor.
As you can see for yourself you have to move into the $350-$375.00 range to get into the better or best category... but mostly some of these might just have more bells and whisles and hookup connectors for Divo or other. Response time is important but the better quality is more important...
Personally, I like and aways have liked Viewsonic monitors. They look very crisp and clear and for some reason they just put very good quality into thier products.
For a CRT, that is the company I would buy from...but when you talk LCD's the competitors become many and more higher end companies seem to be in the fray.
If I may offer another opinion or analogy... I find it difficult and much of a guessing game when you cannot view IN PERSON waht you are buying... It is very hard to tell if you are going to like the product and if it indeed plays games like you want.
Mostly all you can do is go by others reviews.... after all it is a matter of choice and a visual thing versus the other HW choices.
When I got my monitor ( CRT about two years ago ) I was looking for quality , dependability and cost had alot to do with it as I only wanted to spend about $200.00 for one...and jsut got one at a Office Depoe that was on sale at the time.
if a Viewsonic had sold for the same price.. I would have gotten thiers instead..but they were much more expensive at the time.. Now after two years they are just now dropping to the $200.00 range..while most others already have come down long ago. reason?.... Great quality product period.
Either of those I chose would work just fine.. maybe appearance and style might be more important for you... maybe not. I think you are going to play games alot so i would look at that as the prime reason..as LCD's do not hold up as well in( rms ) unless you spend quite a bit more for the latest and best out there. Just a fact in the market place.

yeah i would mainly use it for gaming. you know? but i dont want to pay a alot of money. i dont need the latest and best. i would like to but i cant afford it. i had that ViewSonic Monitor picked out because thats the only monitors i know. so i know that they are really good. but for only $50-$80 more for a 19" better LCD is good for me. i really just want to get the cheapest LCD but yet a very good quality for gaming and stuff. that 17" ViewSonic was nice. so was that 19" Acer.
which is prolly what i will go with since its only $50 more. but im not for sure. i would like a 19" LCD bigger viewing size for gaming n stuff. so i will most likely go with that. but im with you rabbit i wish we could all jsut try it out first to see if were going to like it. but if they let us do that they know that they wouldn't sell vary many of that sertain product because everyone will know if its good or bad. so thats a bummer.
that 2GB OCZ memory is only $193. maybe i should jsut get 4GB lol. but then again i dont really need 4GB so kind of a waste. i know more is better. but if im ganna pay $200 extra might as well get an LCD is what i was thinking. dang LCD monitors are alot harder to pick than CRT. i wouldn't mind sticking with CRT's cause i know that they are really good Monitors and prolly better than the BEST LCD monitor out today. but there just soo big!
and i figured hey if i get an LCD thats really good i can just hook up my 17" CRT and my 19" LCD together and use each one like forsay the CRT plays this one game better than the LCD does but then the LCD plays this movie/Game better than my CRT. i could jsut use a sertain one you know? what do ya think about that?? i think i will go with that 19" Acer. i just wish i knew alittle more about the company and what all the experts say like pcworld.com and stuff like that. thanks again for everyones help.

All you can do is check things out read reviews and talk with people and that is what you are doing.. Computer choices today are a nightmare...esp. if you are not very knowledgable and even if you are...it is still a quadmire.
The return policy at NewEgg.com is stated right up front as you can see..so sending it back would entail alot of ifs and mostly the manufacturers disgression.. chancy providing nothing is wrong with the monitor.
I still prefer CRT's because of picture quality..and I agree as others do that the bulkyness is a factor.. but one of the other things is that ( its been said to me alot lately ) the CRT's are alot harder on the eyes. before I moved mne back some and started ot wear my glasses again full time my migranes suddenly went away.
If you already have a CRT then a LCD would be good... it stills comes down to personal choice and preference and only you are in charge of that.
Just pick up one of the LCD's and try and be happy with it. One gigabyte of memory is plenty for about ninety percent of anything you do including games.. 2 gigs is more than enough for the near and distant future.
After all, remember you are building one of the better gaming systems here anyways... be greatful and thankful for that.

the one issue i see with this is the wirless keyboard and mouse... why on earth would you get a wireless mouse for gaming, the keyboard will suffice but wireless mouse + games = horrible, especially if you're playing shooters, and with a system like that I sure hope you'll be playing shooters. As for the monitor, one of the best buys you can get is the samsung 710n, 17 inch lcd with 12ms response time it has a great picture and never see any ghosting, their 19 inch model with the 8 ms time that just came out is also pretty sweet, I would recommend either of those from personal experience.

Hi Sk8erboy,
I'm excited for you. I can really identify. I've just completed my first build two days ago and I'm still excited. It looks like we chose some similar components. My new rig is listed below
Case: Thermaltake Shark
Power Supply: Antec TruePowerII 550Watt
Motherboard: Asus A8V Deluxe with Via Kt800 Pro chipset
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+San Diego 1 Ghz FSB socket 939
Zalman CNPS 7700-CU Heatsink and Fan
Memory: Corsair Value select 2 Gb (4x 512)
Video Card: evga 6800GT AGP 256MB
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 8 (7.1) Channels
WD 74GB Raptor 10000 rpm-SATA
2M Cache Sony IDE DWQ28A 16X DVD Burner
So far knock on wood...everything is working flawlessly. Received the components Wednesday afternoon and spent Wednesday Evening assembling with my son. I started at 8:00 p.m. and I was up and running with XP installed by midnight. Puts my Dell 4600 Dimension to shame. Running BF2, COD UO, Halo, etc all on full resolution and full anti aliasing with out a stutter to worry about. Now I need to begin learn about benchmarks and how to use them and apply them. I did a lot of reading about the motherboard before I began and I'd advise you to do the same. Go to the manufactures website and download the manual. Study it at length before you even receive the parts. The asus manual is THOROUGH which is part of the reason I selected it. Look at reviews and forums outside of this one and the newegg ones. The more time you spend pre build the better off you will be for it.
I went with the Asus k8v deluxe because it was one of the few mobos that was socket 939 and an AGP slot. ( I had the vid card before I started the build). I kind of wished I was going PCI E but I'll go for that on my next build.
I need another optical device...I might just get another Sony burner..the price was right as usual at new egg. And I need a second hard drive. It will definately be Western Digital and I like the sound of that 250gb model you selected.
Will you be using SATA connections on your harddrives?. Look into it if you haven't. I had to download a driver from the VIA chipset website and load it during the XP installation. Never would've know that if I wasn't looking at the mfg's website...saved me lots of aggravation and time as the procedure went off w/o a hitch
Good luck and keep us posted

the one issue i see with this is the wirless keyboard and mouse... why on earth would you get a wireless mouse for gaming, the keyboard will suffice but wireless mouse + games = horrible, especially if you're playing shooters...
Not if you get the MX1000 Laser mouse from logitech. This mouse IS the exception to that rule. :t

Haven't we all discussed this mouse thing begore?? I have the MX700 by Logitech and I disagree, as so far it has been just fine for gaming.. quick enough believe me.
I think maybe the mousepad has more to do with DPI somewhat... but plug in mouses might give you the advantage of a steady signal...but not necessarily a better DPI.
Wireless keyboard is not al that necessary and the verdict is out to lunch onthat onoe.. I prefer the wired ones myself for that piece of HW.
I was trying to tell him that I thought the Asus or MSI might be beter Mobos ,but that Gigabyte earned high honors and previews acrosss the board.so it will be alright I think. ( example..I'd get the Asus A8V SLI deluxe board )
Still good enough choices and your going to be fine.

I use the Logitec m-rr67a mouse, with no problems at all on CS source.
You just need to get used to it, took me about 24 hours to get it sorted, now better than before!!!
Loving the spec by the way, puts mine to shame...

I continue to find it real interesting that with some users like yourself and all the ohters out there .. ther must be a miriad of choices for putting together the best machine possible fot the money OR money at hand.
If things..( HW choices ) are all compatible, then away you go...and get that and be happy.
If i were to spend all my time being bummed out or wondering how I could get or obtain the best out there all of the time.. it would be outdated... almost by the time I got it pieced together and up and running.
Splendid system... and i wish you all the best and happiness with your new toy. LOL

If you haven't purchased your monitor yet, I'd grab the viewsonic LCD out of the two choices. The only way I'd touch an Acer monitor is with a baseball bat. If you want the increased viewing area from a CRT due to the lower cost, grab a Samsung, Mitsu, or Viewsonic.

the viewsonic 17 CRT i already have..ive heard/read alot about Acer monitors..and they seem to be pretty good. but then again i might have changed from an Acer to a different one i dont remember..but ill look into it! thanks!

Your welcome... i should point out that like alot of people here, i am just another user and don't want to give the impression that I am any more knowledgable than others here.. I just read and learn and do like everybody else.
The reality fo the situation is that in the end you have to make your own choices...,which from reading your choices made..seem pretty good. Certaining very high end. Also, as stated many times.. you could pick any number of chocies for a piece of HW and they would porbably do the job equally as well.
I wouldn't have aclue as to what video camera to get....sorry.

I would first check out the video card section here maybe.. as that is the closest link here that seems to apply...
In the past remember alot of people here discussing either the same thing or something related....
Now is this something that yuo are going to try and hook up an interface or adapter to for the omputer .. or just looking for a video camera??
If it were me , I would look at Tom's Hardware and check under thier listings on the left hand side for reviews and other... also, places like NewEgg or other computer sites..as well.
One idea is to just type in video cameras in your browser and check out the links that come up. theres bound to be something of interest there.
Other than checking out the store or retailers that carry them on the website.. thats about all i know where to go.

thanks again rabbit! ill look into toms hardware..thanks!
