Hello my good friends;
10-01-99 I would just like to announce that I have passed the A+ CORE & DOS/Windows exams today!!
CORE 95%
DOS/Windows 96%
The CORE test was exactly what I expected but the DOS/Windows test was more difficult than I anticipated...and yes, this was my first time taking the exams /forum/smile.gif

/forum/smile.gif I am happy for you. I hope I will be just like you or something like that. I have yet not made a choice if I should go to college or to the armed forces first. What college classes did you take?

Krueger81,
College? I am embarassed to say.. but I have only taken 2 courses...algebra and Korean language (but I do speak/read/and write Korean rather well)..if only I had put that effort into "C" language I'd be semi-retired by now. Does the "college of life count?"
College or millitary? hmmm? Speaking from experience of a 2 generation millitary (army)household; The millitary will teach you more but college will earn you more. the sooner you get a degree the better. Do not listen to those who say a degree doesn't mean much - it DOE$ it really DOE$$$. And if for a stint you have to work in a burger joint, at least you will be the manager.
Let the ARMY train you in a skill:::?
I was a Pershing missile crewman in 1978
(MOS 15E10); it was very technical stuff for that era. Our missile carried a 400KT warhead (that is roughly 30 times the destructive power of the Hiroshima bomb)..but when I got out it said on my discharge paper (DD214)

95%-96%?
Shows room for improvment.

Congrats. Hopefully it will translate quickly into some added cashflow. /forum/wink.gif Cisco networking exams next, eh?
Just out of curiosity, what is the cost involved in taking the A+ test? Just the test mind you, no study materials. I've been thinking about taking it for the extra tidbit on the old resume.
Eh what IS A+ certification?, How do you get it, heh, sorry, just never knew!

It was around $190 when I took it. I think it's still pretty close to the same.
A+ is a test to see whether you have the knowledge it takes to be a tech. Of course, no test can really tell, but it does have a half-way decent job of it.

Well put Joel! It use to be the certs were for those who were in the field long before taking any tests. It was a stepping stone for them. When the classes were over, you asked questions because you had real world experience and you understood much better. Now it's the other way around.
I don't know what doors the A+ opens for you, but I bet it will help a lot. A friend passed the cisco tests and got around 20 job offers within a week. He accepted one for over 100k a year and he is only 22yrs old. I think I am going to start studying up.

Thanks for all the kind words.
Yes, there is room for improvement, but some questions were vague and one of the questions did not specify Win3x or Win95 and the answer could have been different depending on which one - and both answers were there. I am not a mind reader so I went with W95 - I do not know if that was one I got wrong or not.
I think if you take the test from certain vendors (from whom you purchase study materials) they will give you a substantial discount - me..I got ripped as usual and paid $128 for each test module, so total of $256.
Dash, the A+ exaim consists of two modules of 70 questions each, one on PC hardware called the CORE and one on DOS/Windows. It is designed to measure the ability of a PC repair technition with 6 months hands-on experience.
And indeed, next is networking certification for sure.

Congratulations, CMonster! Who on this board could be surprised that you'd pass with flying colors?
Se-he-e pong-man-y patdu-shipshiyo!
I'm trying to say either "Congratulations" or "Happy New Year" or "Happy Birthday" in Korean, I can't remember which. /forum/wink.gif But heck, any of the three will come in handy at some point in the future... there's no particular expiration date on 'em.
Gratz CMonster!
I don't think anyone on this board doubted that you could pass with flying colours!
As goes the college/army route for Krueger81, I'm a bit of a pacifist, so I'd say college. However if you go into the army as a specialist in comms or engineering, then you'll get loads of tech training that would be useful, and if they like you enuff and you fancy a career, they may even sponsor you through college. Worth looking into.
Oh yeah, and go in as a commisioned officer if you get the chance. Then you get to tell other people what to do. Even if they're twice your age.
And of course, nothing to say you can't get your certification in your own time. I'm sure many army guys need their own PCs fixing and maintaining /forum/smile.gif
