Ive got a router and my sister is sharing my connection, she's using 98se and im using win2kpro. She only uses her comp to surf and do research for college, nothing major, but she always seems to do it when im playing something online :/. I wnna cap her upload. Net Limiter worked great..........for about an hour and then crashed, now even reinstalling it doesnt work, it just crashs instantly.

So, is there an alternative to Net Limiter that doesnt crash if a mouse farts in the garden  . Ive tried Netpeeker but it stinks on Win9x :( .

Thanks in advance.

sure you can

just setup a computer with windows xp and 2 nic cards
enable windows connection sharing
install netlimiter on it and route your sisters connection through it and limit it
no crashing from winxp and you have full control 24/7

or spend a few $1000 and get a firewall box with full bandwith control

some linksys routers have QoS capabilities. you can look into that.

You did not indicate how you share the connection and what type it is?

I have a 3Mb/sec. DSL shared using Buffalo Wireless Cable/DSL Router, my grandson is next to me gaming online as we speak while I do intensive Online work and there is NO problem. Unless two people download large files at the same time the Net limiting problem seem to be more of a sibling’s rivalry rather then a technology issue.

There are only 2-3 software packages that do bandwidth limiting. Netlimiter is the best of the bunch.

As Midknyte mentioned there is a trick to quasi control bandwidth with an entry level router. It can be done with Linksys WRT54 & WRT54GS provided you flash them with 3rd party firmware.
