I've been running Win95b on a HP Vectra with P200MMX,32Meg RAM,2.4 Gig Generic Type 40 HD, MGR Millinum Powerdesk. I've been running this dinosaur for 1.5 yrs now. About two months ago we changed client locations and ever since then, the box has run much slower with a lot more Virtual Memory access. Our new Network (NT4) is 100BaseT (vs 10BaseT at old location). The drive is partitioned FAT16 with a 2gig and 393meg drives (both with DMA). I try and keep at least a 100 meg clean on the C: drive. No really new software has been added in this period of time and I have added no new utilities (I run ClipMate, WinSystem98, and Fprot in the background). I run a lot of software for development, but no more than I did before. I have run some diagnostics and defrag the drives monthly, but it is still at least 25% slower. I verified that the configuration was not radically changed in the move. The system is no more unstable than any Win95 client on a NT network. It is almost like my RAM (either system or video) is not working properly, though I would expect that to be a much bigger problem. Considering most everyone comes to me for PC probs, I have to scratch my head over this one.

Your swap space is a bit small if you are using 100 megs. Defrag again as well as scandisk after dumping excess files and emptying your browser cache file.
I have nearly an identical system, cept I have a Seagate Ultra 33 4.5 gig- yup these lil intel sytems rock /forum/smile.gif Oddly I used have a lot of probs with odd error messages and hang on shut down etc.
I had a virus for a long time but all it did was put a garbled screen up once in a while (obviously written by an idiot) Eventually got rid of it with fdisk and fprot.
My ram is dimm and the system varies its speed depending on the temprature and the time of day - I notice the change of location could you be having Power problems ?? The mains supply does vary - I often put a Volmeter on the line and am suprised by the peaks. They will make a difference.
One thing that does makes these systems run much better is allowing the Video board to run at default settings /forum/smile.gif I also run windows with the /d:x switch, nother quibble is power management - if on it tends to mess with certain s/ware like RealAudio.
Try disabling 'power polling'
Hope that helps

100 meg swap space was good enough 2 months ago when the box ran decently. Though I now have about 260 meg free space. The major annoyance is various input delays and basically freezing up for a second or two every now and then (maybe 40 times a day). In a fit of desperation I have configured my Clipmate utility in the hopes having a large number of clips saved may cause some lag.
I also tweaked the power management as the location change also means a power change, though others with similar boxes do not seem to be sharing my experience. Although I do suffer some bloat, the registry and drives are fairly clean.
Thanx for the ideas.
