Are you sure it's not UDMA Mode 2?

An ATA-33 drive reads in POST as UDMA Mode 2 (transfer rate 33.3) and an ATA-66 will readout UDMA Mode 4 (transfer rate 66.6).

ok. thanks.. i never notice that. now that u said it.. ur rite.. and i feel much better.. knowing that my hd is not running at only half its speed.
another question.
i bench my hd under norton utilty
it only gave it 1.1 rating.. 1.0 being low end and 4.7 being mid end and 8.1 being high end. now i dont expect a 8.1 but ..a 1.1 for a new hard drive is hard to swallow. that was what led me to look at my BIOS
once again any comments would be very helpfull!
thanks!

I'm not sure what NU's stats mean since I don't use it, but have you checked to see if DMA is enabled in Device Manager, Properties sheet for your hdd? If the DMA box is not checked, place a check in it. Reboot.

Also, you should back up your Registry before doing this, because if your sys hangs after rebooting it could cause Registry errors.

Good Luck!

dang! Socalgal, you pegged that one right away!!

Hat's off to ya - I was thinking what might make it only work in PIO2 -- I was going to ask if his FSB might be too high -hehe /forum/wink.gif
