I have updated my motherboard and processor - the BIOS sees the cards (modem, sound etc.) but Windows 98 does not find them even if I try new hardware wizard. Any suggestions ?

Jeff Vampiel 10-04-1999, 12:33 AM If it does not detect it in windows auto probe then that means that it is not PNP (plug-and-play) you have to manually install them by getting your drivers off the internet, goto a search engine and look up each of your hardware's model/name you can see what they are normally by looking on your hardware for a model #, then d/l the drivers, goto add new hardware then you pick the option to select the device yourself (its not the default option) then simply select what type of hardware it is, then hit next, then goto have disk and browse till you goto the directory that you d/led the drivers to and hit ok, then it should install the drivers, restart your system and you should be good to go. Rookie 10-04-1999, 07:29 AM Look on the different *pages* of your bios setup. There should be a setting for pnp OS, make sure that bios setting didnt get reset to its default when you swapped mobo. 98 is trickier than 95, sometimes about autodetecting hardware (even though 98 has support for more devices than 95). I've found its best to install only the ram and video card- then let windows detect that. Once thats done, install one card at a time(modem, sound, any other devices)let windows load after each. Hope that helped Rookie mykel 10-04-1999, 08:20 AM go to your device manager and see if there is no "!" ( exclamation ) on all your devices. If there is your problem is solved... Just delete those one that has exclamation or better yet, even if it doesn't have the exclamation, all those that aren't working ( modems, soundcard, etc. )delete them all then windows will auto-detect all of them back.. hope that helps, if not, let me know.. if it did, well.. you can re-post it and let me know anyways.. :-) -mykel- labassu 10-04-1999, 06:13 PM Go go CONTROL PANEL DEVICE MANAGER look down the list see if you find OTHER DEVICES sometimes WIN will throw your cards in there if they are.. remove them /forum/smile.gif j_k 10-04-1999, 08:14 PM Last year every one said upgrade - I kept ma money hehehehee 98 and 95b and cards and shadows and different bus speeds and dissapearing stuff. Real simple - non PNP - make sure they have locked resources in BIOS, PNP make sure BIOS is set to AUTO - install one card per reboot - Windoze can only handle one at a time. If there is a ghosting problem - run the system slow till the BIOS's sync - and the software gets to run for a while then you can rev it up. Mine will run at 60 ns but it misses Video sends a lot and I get a empty screen /forum/frown.gif So I am stuck at 70 ns. I have a VX mobo and DIMM memory PCI vid with 1 meg. Hope that helps /forum/smile.gif SysOpt.com
