Every now and then win 98 seems to crash, either the blue line stops moving and I have to reboot or I get a page of little letter c with a tail on them. and have to reboot. Can I just reinstall win 98 and if so will I loose all my settings, shortcuts, email letters etc. I have the CD full version.

All you need to do is use your win98 boot disk and start the computer with CD-ROM support, then get to the win98 directory on the win98 CD-ROM and run the setup file, this will reinstall windows and fill in any missing files, you will not lose anything.

In my experience any "chrash problems" with Win98 are best solved by doing a search for the specific error code with Microsoft's Advanced Support Search: http://support.microsoft.com/support/search/c.asp .

Often the causes of crashes are very suprising such as Norton Antivirus causing problems when running 16 bit applications because it is using an old VxD. Without the support search I would never have figured that out.

there's a conflict on your drivers... best solution is, what is the last thing you did on your comp? secondly if you can't remember, follow what nemo said, re-install windows...

On the occasion I have to reinistall W98 over itself with the full install version, I have to rename or delete the win.com file first. Otherwise, the setup detects it and tells you that it's only for clean installations. Good luck...
