first off I have a 13.1 gig. hdd
I now use oem win 98 plus. c,d,e, fat 32. I want to load nt server & nt workstations. on the same machine with 98 to study with.
1. I need to do a fat 16 to use all three right ? "I want them to be nice and share" or dose nt need ntfs. I don't care about security right now.
2. they all have to be on the first 2 gig ?
98 500,nt server 500,nt workstation 500 ok ?
3.do I even need 98 on the machine. I want to use the nt's mostly. "network studies"
4. will I have any problem useing my hardware with the nt's, sound blaster live,3d blaster banshee, panasonic wide carriage dot matrix , hp deskjet, hp plotter. cannon bubble jet, parrell ext. zip drive, cdrw, tape backup, ect.
5.dose nt's work with most software ?
6. or should I hook up another system to just run the nt's on and network them together. If I do this will the win 98 fat 32 and the nt's ntfs. be able to see each other on the network.
7. are you as screwed up as I am now. or do you see what I'm trying to do. do I need to make a different posts on this subject. "HELP"
8. and to make things worse. what if I wanted to load win 95 in the first two gig.to
9. how would I boot these ?

1. NT can be converted to fat 32
2. No It shouldn't require the first 2 gig area infact you can even setup on a totally different drive
3.98/95/NT4&5 are all able to network
4.Yes you will have some probs get all Nt service packs and updates look for drivers and second party software as well most probs can be overcome if you have the time
5.Most software but not all
6.NTFS and FAT32 will not recognise each other set up NT as a FAT16 then convert to 32 after setup
7.Wait until Win 2000 pro arrives about November integrates the best of both supposedly
8.You definately have to much free time First look at what your availlible OS's are capable of then choose from there if you have multiple processors you need SMP to use that capability NT or Win2000 if Gaming 98 or 2000 will do just fine over all 2000 looks like it will solve your delema but then again we are talking about MicroSoft Hope I've helped some

I havn't messed around with nt server, but you can put 98 using fat16 on your box, then put nt workstation fat16, and nt will use the nt loader which will allow you to choose which os to start. i don't know why you would want nt server if it is not serving something so I would set it up on another box and have it serve the workstation/98 machine.NT supports almost all the common software that 98 does except for some games and older dos programs since nt is purely 32bit and must emulate dos. NT will support your hardware, and your partion type has nothing to do with networking. You can see any type of partition across a network from any of the os's. If you really want to have four os's on your machine It might not be a bad idea to get bootmagic, and maybe another hd. I have linux,nt,and 98 on one machine just using lilo and nt loader with no probs, but it took some thinking to get it set up.

thanks for the info. the reason why I want them all on the same machine is because I'm going into a different direction in life. And I have alread bought two copies of nt workstation 4.0 and 1 nt server 4.0 full versions. I want to get some understanding on them before I setup a network.I'm studing f/ network administrator. I have been into this computer stuff f/ 18m yrs. and now the only way to get somewhere. is to learn networking to the fullest. thanks once again. I 'll wait on some more reply before I do the install. a lot of heads are better than one. once again. thanks guys.
