NuovoTech 10-04-1999, 06:00 AM Suppose it would...delete all *.bmp files known to be wallpaper from windows directory. Get rid of screensavers in Add/Remove Windows Setup tab... johnpaul 10-04-1999, 08:12 AM Screen savers can be memory hogs, but wallpaper is simply a bitmap file, right? That can't use much space. JP Brian48 10-04-1999, 09:04 AM That depends on the size of the .bmp file you're using. If you're using a huge, 32bit color .bmp file you've downloaded off the net, it's not uncommon for the wallpaper to suck up as much as 3mb or more of memory. I try to keep mine down to 500k or less and around 256 color if I can help it. DavidX 10-04-1999, 05:37 PM It may save some memory not to use wallpapers/screensavers but it does make the PC kinda boring without them, doesn't it? Cheesh! Just how desperate for memory are you? /forum/wink.gif I remember using both on a 120MHz Pentium with 16Mb RAM. Seemed fine then. Now that 32, 64 or 128Mb RAM are common, they should be even less of a problem! I guess it all depends on how much RAM you have and just what applications you need to run. chuckiechan 10-04-1999, 10:52 PM Before you dismantle your eye candy files, why don't you download a copy of "Freemem" from Sysopt.com. I think it may be a more objective way to determine your memory useage. The free-ware version is manual and you have to push the button to free up your memory so you can see what you are doing as you experiment. Hope this helps.... SysOpt.com
