Hi guys!

Here is my problem: SLLLLOW internet connection. Meaning, I can go online and surf BUT it takes forever to load a webpage. Example, to load Google.com, it will take more than 10 minutes for that 1 page to load up completely. Also, if I try to DL a 5MB file, it will take 9 hours. It doesnt make sense.

A little background: My ISP is Cox and the modem was purchased at frys (brand: Best Data) I have 6 PC on a LAN sharing the same IC. At first when this problem flourished, I though it was just network traffic doing its thing, but then I realized I was the only computer surfing the net. This problem happened 2 weeks ago and has the speed has slowly degraded to the point of where its driving me insane.

To elimante any possiblities that could be causing the problem, I hooked up one clean, virus and adware free computer to the Modem bypassing the network. reset the modem, Released/renewed my IP, once an IP was established, I pinged my ISP Gateway 30 times. With an average packet loss of 6% to 13%, I also had my ISP ping my computer and yet they can still communicate.

At that time, I figured hmmm, maybe my pc is wacked out. So, Ill try my laptop and see if the problem still persists. And yes it does. I also tried another computer, and yes the problem still exists. Slow internet connection, but yet good packet transmitals.

I had that cox tech inspect our line and he said its fine and the DB signals are within spec. I really understand what the hell is going on here. Could it be that the Cable Modem is on its last leg?

Any input from you Smart people would be great!!!! :t

I bought a Best Data modem an it was CR*P to my old USR 2977 hardware modem. The Best Data modem gave me the worst connection I've ever seen an it was an external hardware modem. I've had WinDoze modems that performed better then that Best Data modem.

6 to 13% data loss is BAD, 3% is shacky, 1% is good, 0% not happening...

You can use hyperterminal to test your line, fergot the commands to do this, but a google search will more then likely find the commands.

Try the latest driver or try older driver from Best Data an not Windows drivers!

If thats an external modem make shure the bios an modem are using the same com port...

Buy a USR External HARDWARE Modem an pay some $, you wont regret it!
