Hey,

Has anybody managed to get the Soundblaster Live! to work under Linux? I've a dual boot Win98/Linux 6.0 and the Soundblaster card works fine under Win98.

sndconfig doesn't work for me, even though/because? I am using the same IRQ settings as under Windows. I tried settings for all of the previous Creative products listed (16, Awe64, etc.)
I checked the Creative site and they say that they are currently working on Linux support but don't have any available yet.

Any advice is appreciated.

I toiled with RH 5.2 for a while and found a driver for it that was available as either a trg or rpm file. It was a beta and it was before I redid my system and had to wipe the Linux partition so I never tried it. It is out there though. If there is someone out there with the website then... for I am a newbie to Linux/UNIX. You may find it here. I still have my Linux bookmarks.

Good luck. Dave

Jeana-
Here's the site for the creative beta SBLive driver. Don't know how well it works. There is some advice to getting it to work at the site in my above post (the long URL).

It worked! Thanks Dave!

I got music, I got rhythm... who could ask for anything more?

Actually, the sound is pretty bad compared to the velvety surround-sound (quad speakers!) that I've grown accustomed to under Windows.
This beta's got a long way to go. But, it's better than nothing...

p.s. installation was very easy. I was just an idiot... I had downloaded the file under windows to an ms-dos partition and transferred it to my Linux /usr/src partition, which somehow caused the name to get abbreviated. So, I thought it was only a .gz, not a .tar.gz file.

I have done the same thing. Especially since the modem I had (yes, had, past tense) was a Winmodem. That was the Banshee driver though. Glad you got it working. The site at CLs that talked about the beta driver said that they could only get two speakers to work too. Good luck. That driver has been out for a while so I don't know if they'll update it or work on it any more. /forum/frown.gif Later-Dave
