Trying to modify a .lic file and not sure what program is needed to open it. I am not a programmer so this is all new to me. I tried PE Explorer but the program is unable to open the file. Any help greatly appreciated. :t :t

You say you're trying to edit it - what kind of file is is supposed to be? Plain text? All I could find on that extension was that it's sometimes used for licence files:

Notepad will open it, as will file editors such as Ultra Edit 32

It is a license file for a program.

I tried opening it in notepad and Ultra Edit 32 and it pulled up garbage. Any other suggestions?

Thanks guys.

If it does have a .lic extension, Ultraedit 32 & Notepad will definitely open it.
I tried myself on a similar file from Network Licenser program.

You normally should not have to touch this type of file anyway. What are you
trying to accomplish ?

Attach it if you can ... you may have to upload it as .txt extension
I will try to open it and let you know what I see

Bruceb, I had to change it to a different file so it would upload. I made it a txt file. Don't know if this will mess things up or not.

We have a program we use here at work for training. Our molding expert would really like to review these training video's but has no time to do them here at work. We talked to the company and they were willing to give us a one week license to load the program up on his laptop. He really liked what he saw and would like to take teh rest of the video's but that is not possible in one week. The company is wanting to sell us a second seat which is several thousand dollars. I was going to try and get into the license file and extend the time. He is the only person using the second seat so the company is unable to justify the money. If not able to get in, it's no sweat. Just trying to do what I can for the company. This is all new to me anyways so I am just having fun learning. :t :t

I can open it in ultraedit32, but it will not display in plain ascii
You would need to bring up the ascii code chart in that program
and then try to find whatever string you are looking for (example
the date it expires, etc)

Mods might not like what you are attempting.

I'm not trying to get a bad name for myself, so if the mod's see this as being an unsuitable act I hope they delete this thread immediately.
Thanks for your help sir.

License files are generally encrypted anyway, to stop people doing what you're trying to, so you won't have much luck editing it :)

I noticed that last night fishybawb after getting a headache trying to understand this stuff. After messing around with this programing stuff I have greater respect for you programmers. I am going to tell the company they are just going to have to spend some money if they want a second seat. :t

Thanks for your help guys. :t :t
