I am using win95b and have the Altec Lansing
ADA-305 Sound system. It has USB suport but ofcourse I don't have USB. This will expand the sound options I have now. How do I get USB to work with my win95b? Or can I? Any help would be Great. THX

You can indeed use USB with Win95b - the files you need can be downloaded from Microsoft.
I wanted to give you a link to Microsoft but I could not locate the files on their site. I could email it to you, the folder is about 2MB - note that you must follow the instructions on Microsoft's README to the letter or you may render your system unbootable without reinstalling Windows(I know I did it). Basically the files must be installed in the proper order.

The question is do you have the hardware for USB. Does your motherboard have integrated USB. Since you are running w95 a good guess is that it does not. If not you can buy a add on card for about $40 retail which will take care of the hardware issues. Then you can install the necessary software.

Very good point toms111! I didn't consider that, but I do have 4 Win95b/c systems that all have USB on the motherboard, all I needed was a riser card for $10. A friend has an IBM Aptiva that is 3.5 years old and it has fully integrated USB on his board.

Another download site for usb is also at http://www.fic.com.tw/ If you have OEM win95b cd, its available right on the disk. File name is usbsupp.exe.
Note: I've had trouble getting my win95b to communicate with my usb scanner. Everything seems to be loaded as far as usb is concerned, even recognized it on boot up, but when scanner drivers are loaded..nothing, "scanner not found" message.
I'm not too concerned because I'm running the scanner off the optional parallel port connection.
I think I'll try loading the drivers at the FIC site. Maybe they have been revised. Win98 will also take care of my problem, but I haven't upgraded yet. Scanner would probably run much better off of USB. Anyways let me know if you get it working.
Thanks
