Watching the TV now, initially they blamed power surges for the the explosions on the Underground, but there are buses being blown up now too.

Blair:
We will not allow violence to change our values. Nor will we allow it to stop the work of this summit. We will continue our deliberations in the interests of a better world. Here at this summit, world leaders are striving to improve human life. The perpetrators of todays' attacks are intent on destroying human life. The terrorists will not succeed. We shall previal, and they shall not.

Bush just now:
We had an opportunity to express our condolences to the people of London, the people who lost lives. I appreciate Blair's determination and strength. He is on his way now to London here from the G8 to speak to the people of London. This morning I have been in contact with Homeland Security and have instructed them to be in touch with local and State officials about the events in London. The contrast couldn't be clearere between the intentions of us (G8) and those who kill innocent people. The war on terror goes on. I was most impressed by the leaders in the room. We will not yield to the terrorists. At the same time, we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion, removing the ideology of hate.

 Well I hate to say that it's because of this 'governments' namby pambying around with immigration control, the police force bowing to every political correctness and civil liberty groups protesting at every action this was inevitable. Why are extremists still allowed to spew their hatred views on the streets of the UK and influence what seems to be a easily led group of people (lemmings and cliffs spring to mind) and get away with it - they love our cash, our jobs, our housing - kick 'em out NOW, HARD & FAST!

Because, Dave, we're being held to a standard that the enemy is not. They can commit any atrocity imaginable, and remain unanswerable to it. We sneeze in the direction of anyone remotely connected with the "other side" and we're brutalizing them. We're prisoners of our own decency.

It's becoming increasingly more important to explore other avenues of resolving global war on terrorism then more violence. Unfortunately, more violence seems to be the only thing thing on everyone's mind in times like these. One thing is for certain, we are not held to a higher standard then the enemy is, unless you think "shock and awe" using 5000 pound bombs and cruise missiles to level a nation for suspected terrorist ties is a higher standard. 112,000 dead in Iraq since the start of the war is a sad example of our benevolent nature if that is our claim. To destroy terrorists in Iraq we must now kill them all. How many more nations will we have to destroy before terrorism is stopped? We will eventually see an end to these random acts of hate and violance, but only when everyman in the world has lost his freedom and is watched and profiled. London just lost a huge share of their freedom, the freedom to move about as free citizens without inspection at every bus stop. Their "Patriot Act" and "Homeland Security Agency" has got to be set up there now too. Watch the cameras multiply. This war is far from over and I fear there will be no victors when this war is finally over.

Certainly a few extra ordinary measures will have to be employed in the future, however our cctv systems are quite comprehensive. These unfortunately only report activity & don't prevent .
Throughout history London has been a target for terrorists, we allmost have become accustomed to this risk. What must be formost in all our minds, must be that not all Moslems are prespective terrorists.
The future will show to the world how resillient Londoners are to this kind of attack :t

best thing you people can do is not over react like the US FREAKING did...just go about your business..sure you may or may not get bombed again..just act normal and eventually the terrorists will see they aren't getting anywhere and move on... :(

That's what surprises me, that the measures taken aren't more stringent, since you've had the IRA bombings there for yonks. But I suppose you can't frisk everyone entering a bus or tube.
My friend in the south just told me he doesn't blame the US for this attack, just me.

How did the US overreact? I live in manhattan and I went about my business the next morning, almost like any other, except that the island was pretty deserted. That was a bit eerie.

Obviously somthing will be in the pipeline, quite what I dunno, we'll deal with this, mop up & bury our dead. At the very least all the politicians are, or shortly will be all back together & they can chew over a system to make this kind of outrage as difficult as possible in future.

Hey we had no experience with this kinda thing before. There'd never been an attack on our soil, ever. But I don't mind the inconvenience, or lost "freedom" as is said. I think staying alive and healthy is paramount to "freedom". The thing that bothers me is stupid measures, like checking ID before boarding a train. What use is that? You think getting a realistic fake ID poses a problem for a terrorist network? They have to be kidding.

Hrmmmm....IIRC, Cour D'Alene, Idaho is one of the biggest white supremacist areas --quick google result-- (http://stop-the-hate.org/idaho.html) in the US. It's not that they don't care give a **** about idaho, it's just that terrorists avoid direct assault-type warfare. If I was a terrorist, other than the white supremacist type, I'd stay away from that area just out of the fundamental terrorist rationale to avoid conventional warfare, and strike when no one's expecting it. The US keeps Idaho, Wyoming and Montana (Militia-group haven) under minimal observation in those places because we need a place to safely store our merc weapon caches and television evangalist assault forces (as well as our stockpile of WMD's and nuclear waste).

Just to clarify, and not to start a drama, I just have to ask:
if a few more cameras could have prevented this, would you still not want them there?

Reason would be great, but if all the parties involved were reasonable, we'd never have gotten here in the 1st place. Reason isn't an option.

If ya don't want your actions seen, your words overheard, or your habits watched, stay in your house with the doors and windows locked and your shades drawn, and by all means stay off the internet!
There's a happy medium in the battle between personal freedoms vs precautions and security. And in an effort to find that happy medium, the US will sway in both directions as we feel our way through this. And we'll probably never reach that goal either, as the world and it's threats change over time. So sit back, relax, and try to choose the worthy battles.
