Hi guys and gals,
I have upgraded to windows xp Professional 2002 SP2 and would like to know how do I get rid of the built in CD writing program and wizard?
I want to install my own copy of Roxio (so I can use CD-RW discs with packet writing).
I cannot find what pgm is actually doing the writing & erasing to CDs, unless it is 'built in' somehow? If so how to turn it off?
Thanks so much!!
Sincerely,
Cin:-@

It wont effect (or is it affect? ) roxio...
You can install Roxio and it'll work fine..I have Nero, DVD Shrink, and some other DVD authoring program, and they all work fine for my CD burning and DVD burning...
There is a way to get it out...just i forgot, if i remember, i'll post...

Go to Start>Run and type: gpedit.msc
In Group Policy editor go to folder: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\
Enable "Remove CD Burning Features"

Personally, I prefer the Windows (based on Roxio 6.0 engine) burner. It's simple, clean and works great for compiling playlists and data CDs. It's true drag and drop.
Roxio Drag to Disk is a real nightmare. It takes forever to format or erase a CDRW and still uses their dumb packet-writing software. It also disables the built-in burner, which I like.
Nero installs and works much cleaner without disabling the Windows engine.

Ditto what BpB Said, its really overkill to turn it off....Tho, it would save you resources.

The last time I left the Windows burner operational it asked if I wanted to burn 1500 mp3's to CD! when I clicked "No" it erased them! I was gutted and searched my drive for days looking for any trace of my tunes that had taken 18 months to copy & catalogue from CD. :r
It's amongst the first things to be disabled in services on my machine after a clean install.
