I just finished reading an article that says that the split between usage of - and + DVD formats is 45%-55%.
Is this right?
Everyone I know (except those sad gits who own HP/Compaq PCs that have '+ only' burners) uses only - DVDs due to price and compatibility.
I use only - disks simply because they still work in more players and are cheaper than the + DVD blanks.
What do you guys use mostly?

Then place a vote for whatever is cheaper most of the time then!
However, the price of coputer stuff in the UK is always astronomical so I guess your vote won't count at all (big surprise there).

See, that wasn't too hard was it. +DVDs hold slightly less and won't work in many older players, but they can be written faster.

I use +R (It is the only type my burner supports :)) But even if it wasn't, I'd still use +R. They are cooler.

Yup, I am. Here is my HP/Compaq PC:

Actually, my burner is quite old, going on 3 years old now. Most, if not all nowadays are multiformat.
A good article on -R or +R:

Ever heard of a vaccume?
Also, any article called 'Why XXX is better than YYY' should be taken with a grain of salt. The author of it is not as smart as he wants us to believe and there are numerous technical errors in his piece and he fails to address the greater compatibility of the - format compared to + as well as generally cheaper prices for - media.

Yes, it was dusty in that pic, but it is not dusty now :p
Why don't you use a vacuum on your computer, and then let me know if you are able to turn it on when you are done cleaning it. :p
*Edit*
I know, its pretty much a propoganda piece, I just googled "DVD+R is better than DVD-R" and that is what came up :) Suitable for OT discussion, though. ;)

So what, my spelling isn't great at this time of day, but my PC is spotless inside and operates perfectly.
Why have a window when all it shows is neglect?

I would hardly call it neglect. My PC operates perfectly, as well. I clean the case whenver I notice it is getting bad, and whenever I have a free moment. It isn't at the top of my priorities list, though.

What brand of burner/DVDs are you using?
I use Princo DVDs and with LG burners they have been flawless, pioneer drives aren't very great with princ though.

Thats because you're a good boy and never use your burner illegaly. Right?
I still love MSI mainboards and vid cards, but I've gone off their optical drives. They just seem to break down a lot more than other brands.

The key to successful burns is luck. I use whatever I feel like at the time and never have any trouble with any of them (that includes DVD too). Right now I am just about through a 50 pack of cheap Memorex cd-r 52x and not a coaster yet. I guess I am just lucky. I have two Samsung high end burners and both work flawlessly every time. They are also some of the quietest drives I have ever used. Please don't advertise it though. If folks knew they were the best on the market, the price would go up. ;)
