When I try to format a HDD I have (Fujitsu 6.4 gig), after setting the partition and making it active, either with or without /s command after format c:, it gets to about the 30% mark, then begins a LONG 'recovering allocation block xxxxxxxxxx (x's are numbers). It counts upward for a long time... 10 pm til about 1pm the next day (when I noticed it was done). After this, when trying to install win98, it kept telling me there was not enough room, etc.
(OK, I guess this may be 3 questions. /forum/smile.gif )

First, what is making it recover blocks/what may have caused it to lose track of them?

Second, how do I fix it? I have FDISKed my head off, formatted, and I even used a utility to do a low level format..

Third, if I have partioned it, and that partion is active, and it has been formatted to its full capacity of 6.1 gig, why is it telling me I don't have enough room?

I have a 10 g WD in there, and was trying to either make the 6.4 a slave, or preferably a clean master which I can sell or trade my dad for some stuff. At any rate, it's frustrating, so I want to fix if for no other reason because its teasing me sinceI cannot figure it out!!!

System:
AMD K6-2 3d 380 mhz
64 M pc100 RAM
CD ROM 24x
6x2x2 burner (which I removed for this operation every time)
Shuttle HOT961p mobo
SB PCI 128 sc
STB Velocity 128 4m video
Desk composition and color: Glue/sawdust compressed wook, dark pseud-oak simulated finish
Operator: Right handed

LOL anyway, I have tried it as a slave on its own IDE channel (2nd), and as the master booting from dos/boot disk on the primary ide channel. Same result either way...maddness, I tell you!

PS: Scandisk has found no errors when I ran it, and the bios is set correctly and recognizes the drive and its capacity (although earlier, it kept auto detecting at 2.x g instead of 6.4.. I put in the proper parameters and it was fine after that). All jumpers are set correctly depending on which situation I tried formatting in (learned that lesson a while ago..). Thanks! /forum/biggrin.gif
