Looking for some thermal paste. What I have been attempting to do is paste a heatsink on my MPact DVD decoder card. But , I have been to Radio Shack, Parts Houses, etc. No-one has the PASTE. Or I am looking for the wrong thing. I don't order ONLINE so I am trying to get the exact name of this stuff. And a good place to find it. I picked up some WELLS SL203 compound but it doesn't dry or adhere. So I am at a loss.
You can get it @ RS as I do here in Marysville. You can also get it at an Electric, Stereo Repair place or even Car parts (ie Auto Zone) places have it.

Go to a different Radio Shack. The brand name is Archer, and they have 2 types available. One will set, the other won't, and I AM in Ohio. I went to 2 different Shacks to find it.

Try an auto parts store.
It's used on electronic ignitions.
Dielectric Compound.

What you are talking about is a thermally conductive epoxy, that is an epoxy resin that has been fortified with solids that increase its thermal conductivity. While there are several places that carry a suitable product, tracking down actual thermal epoxy can be difficult. In a pinch a fairly good substitute can be made from regular 5 minute epoxy and about 50% by volume of any of the following:
Titanium dioxide - (white paint solids and a ceramic glaze compound that you can obtain form any ceramic supply house)
Zink oxide - (about the same as above)
Red iron oxide - (powdered red concrete colorant which is also used widely in ceramics, can be obtained from a building or ceramic supply)
*any metal powdered finer than 400 mesh
Remember that no heat transfer compound is as efficient as solid metal so keep the bonding layer as THIN as possible.
CMonster ~ Excellent input! I'll add it to my bag o' tricks. /forum/smile.gif
Conductive Silver Epoxy (PN 1615) is available from Circuit Works. (800) 926-0123.
But I suspect Sweeper is looking for plain old heatsink compound.

I have been to parts houses again and to the 2 local radio shacks and no-one has the epoxy. ****. This stuff is hard to find.
Can't believe I cannot find Epoxy. All I wanna do is glue a heatsink to my decoder card... /forum/frown.gif can't believe this.
DHatAVI-that part #. Is that for the epoxy?
I need the paste or epoxy to GLUE the heatsink to the processor.
CMonster-thanks for the info, but sounds like alot of work for one heatsink. But I will write it down and keep it for future use. thanks. /forum/smile.gif

Your Radio Shacks must not be company stores. I used to work for Tandy Corp. and I know RS carries epoxy. You might also try hobby stores, they typically have something you should be able to use.
Good Luck! /forum/smile.gif
p.s. - I will try to find the RS p/n on the epoxy. Do you live close to Indianapolis? I know, it might be a long way to go for heatsink epoxy!
