It seems to happen all the time apparently for no reason, the whole system just hangs, I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and end the program. Sometimes it won't even do that. It does it almost everytime I use it. I had 4.61 and thought this might be for some reason unwise as I am in UK and it doesn't say a UK version is available yet. I downloaded 4.6 and use this instead but the problems still occur, anyone any ideas?

Soyo 5EMA

Please help.

Here's another thing, sometimes, again for no apparent reason, netscape will not open hyperlinks, you click on them and nothing, it won't go anywhere, the only way you can open the link is to right click and tell it to open the link in a new window. This problem again is rectified by shutting netscape down and restarting it, losing wherever it is you were, very annoying if you can't remember how you got to the place you were at (make sense?).

Very annoying. Solutions?

I know exactly what you're going through and from my knowledge there is no easy answer.

I while back I was running ver. 4.6 with 4.5 installed right on top of it and it ran flawlessly. A friend of mine also had the same experience /forum/smile.gif

Since that time, I was forced to do a reinstall and only installed ver. 4.5
and have run into the same problems that you have mentioned and it's very annoying.

I happen to have versions 4.2 and 4.5 on disk . So just a few days ago I uninstalled Netscape and reinstalled 4.5 on top of 4.2 and have seen a marked improvement. My problems are not gone completely but they are improved and now I can once again open up more than three windows without having to CTRL/ALT/DEL.

Sounds crazy, but it works for me /forum/smile.gif

Problem is most likely in Win98 having IE4/5 with it. /forum/wink.gif

I have had problems with Netcrash since the 2.0 days. Here is a solution. IE5. Much better browser. I will get Communicator 5 when it comes out and see what it is about but 4.6 cannot hang.

Like ktwebb says, the answer may lie in changing to IE5. For me, I ran IE for several years, then after building a new system & loading Win98, it started giving me those dreaded "illegal operation error" messages with nearly every click of the mouse. Reloading the browser didn't help, so I cured it by changing to Netscape. No problems since! Seems that some browsers work better on a given system than others.
Of course, this brilliant/low tech cure relies on one's willingness to change from their existing browser to a new one- something that not all are willing to do... /forum/wink.gif

The only time that Netscape crashed on a regular basis for me was when I rebuilt my system and restored user data from the old system. I solved this problem by restoring very specific files.

This does not sound like the problem that you are having. I just recently upgraded to 4.61 and I have yet to encounter any crashing problems. If I find out anything I'll let you know. /forum/smile.gif

If I sounded like I was dissin Netscape I guess I was but really to each his own. I have used it and it is a fine browser. I just happen to believe that IE5 is the superior browser in features, speed, and use of XML and DHTML. Either way, competition is always good.

Win95b
Began with 4.3 on cd rom then upg to 4.5 - crashes all the time. Eventualy had to fdisk
reformat and got 4.6 on download.

It runs great occasional crashes- due to auto disconect commands - Do these come from a the net or are they local? Anyway it is like the tsr or something jumps in and wham HUNG.
I think windows does not like Netscape - Like to know how it behaves in Unix or Linux?

Also there reamins a property page for Ie Explorer v 3 on my desk top - Could that be causing probs as well?
Other gripe my machine absolutely hates java
any java script in cache = trouble - Vx chipset intl 200mmx intel and trident pci video-seagateATA udma 33 hd -

Poss related - BIOS maxes out at 22/meg.sec
but the hd maxes out at 33/meg.sec
<P>
Have lots or weird stuff happening in win95
like unexplained explorer errors, no program
bar - just aint there sometimes - or document
bar -
hope that helps /forum/smile.gif
