When I fire up my computer from cold it goes through the boot up process with no problems. The first splash screen appears, then the second. The machine crashes at that point (full reboot, memory count). The same happens when I run it in safe mode. If I keep on trying eventually it will go in with no problems. I thought that it may be a problem with my graphics card (trident 3dimage 9750 pci) as it would give me an error screen when windows, did eventually load. Error said that the card was not setup correctly when in fact I have been using the same card for the last 1.5 years. So I bought myself a Matrox Millenium II. I installed this and booted up windows and sure enough it crashed. Tried a few reboots and finally managed to get in. During those reboots, I did get a strange message during bios startup about checksum???. Next time I went into bios, all my defaults had changed.

I have just recently installed a infrared keyboard, dunno if that has anything to do with it?

Its as though, my computers is saying 'no way man, I am far to cold!!', I am in England after all!!

I will try and take all the cards out and try reseating. Your comments, will be most appreciated.

Also, I want to overclock. Current setup is 3x66. Would 3.5x75 work? or should I first try 3.5x66

Mine does it also. I havn't found anything written about it, so I just figure it's a Windows problem. Turn on puter, gets to Desktop, then reboots. But it only does it once. I've run just about every utility there is on this thing, and nothing can be found wrong.

Oh, well.

Sounds like a resource conflict.
Something you might try is going up in safe mode - deleting some devices (video - sound - modem ect.) and windoze will reload things.

I went in and re-arranged my cards. Now I have an empty slot in between each one. No more reboots.(so far) Yippy-Skippy.

went out and bought a new heatsink and fan because when i opened up the the machine, i saw that the fan was clogged with dust. Installed new fan etc and booted up fine. I have also tried overclocking, but can only get to 225mhz. It says in my motherbaord guide that I can multiply by 3.5, but when I set the jumper, it only multplies by 2.5. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks to all who helped /forum/smile.gif

Just woke up this morning and the machine is doing it again. I have reinstalled windows 98 and reseated all the cards and put a new heatsink on. The machine still only boots after a few go's. I have overclocked to 225 from 200, so I dont think that is the problem. Because the machine once booted works fine. It looks as though my machine doesnt like being cold!!!

Anymore ideas anyone, maybe my hardware is on its way out.

Maybe power supply problem--try changing with another to test.
