ok I've installed my mobo, cpu, memory, new HD,video card and power suppply. I've pushed the power on button and the power supply and HD power on. power button on my monitor lights up then shuts off. I turn the monitor on and I still can't access the bios setup. any suggestions?

Just a quick question. Have you made sure that the "cmos" jumper is in the "run" postion and not the "clear" position. Most come shipped in the "clear" position.
What motherboard are you using? other perfs?

the jumpers are set to retain settings and not clear. but i'm gonna try it since maybe someone bought it and returned the mobo. Another potential problem would be the video card that my friend gave me. It is an ati rage 11 AGP. It has three pins but the jumper is missing(maybe it fell out). I don't really see this as a problem but I'll check ati website anyways. thx for your help. I'm such an idiot, should've started building this thing during the summer and now I've got an early class and I probably won't be able to sleep till I get this thing running. thx again mntsnow, one more thing that you've taught me. No other perphirals attached on my soyo 6ba+111. good nite.

sOME MB'S bios's are fubar'd off the shipment, it happens about 1/1000 mb's if you cant get it to work send it back.
Sounds like powersupply problem. Mine has done the exact same, (PS fan on, HD light on, Monitor power up then down) In my case, it turned out to be bad power switch.
Check all your power connections.
