First one I could find. Quite in depth too. However, I'm not impressed.

Make your own call though. :t

Here is another:http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=150&type=expert I am not impressed either, but I hope this one will bring the price of the 6800GT and Ultra down:r

Those numbers were indeed UNimpressive... I found it very interesting that toms had so much praise for the card at the end of the article.

yeah, the 7800 looks more like an evolution than a revolution, but it is still a pretty darn fast card.
At least Nvidia got it right and had cards in stock to sell.

Its fast, just not as as much of a power bump as I anticipated. I'm guessing the reason why they're readily available is becuase it seems like fairly minor changes between these new cards and the 6800.

from what i've read (i've been working out of the office most of the day and just finally got some time to read), it's about a third faster than a 6800U on average. Not too shabby, but I think we were spoiled by the 59xx to 6800 jump.
part of the reason can also be attributed to CPU limitation. the 7800GTX maintains high framerates even at high resolutions. Guru3D put it well:
What you do need to be aware of is that this little gem requires a really fast CPU though. A high-end graphics card needs a symbiosis with a high-end PC. 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 or a rather sizable AMD64 Athlon 3400+ is something you need at the least for real. Even with our Athlon 4000+ testing rig we ran into CPU limitation here and there. That's does not mean games run like **** though, oh of course not. They are way up there in the highest ranking scores and performance. Yet the graphics' card can go faster then it's allowed. The CPU simply isn't presenting data fast enough to the graphics card driver. Even a game like Half-Life 2 for example can run into that limitation if you turn off stuff like AA and AF and then measure in 1024x768. Of course you'll have incredible framerates and let me emphasize this again, at blazing speeds. But the graphics card _can_ compute faster if it was allowed to receive more data from the CPU in certain games.
when you see all the cards with the same framerate, then you know it has to be the cpu limiting the system, not the video card. you can see the disparity between the 7800GTX, 6800U, and X850XT once they start bumping up the resolutions, enabled AA/AS, etc.
The games now weren't programmed to take advantage of all the 7800GTX has to offer. We might see a different picture once UT2007 comes out. If Nvidia comes through with those multithreaded drivers, who knows what they could do.

Yeah, thats a good point... Guess we'll just have to do the "wait and see" thing.
One thing I DO find impressive about the card is that its a sinlge slot solution, consumes less power and produces less heat.

All we can do right now is wait.
And I do agree that it is a revolution in and of itself to see a step back in heat and power consumption. This is not something that Nvidia usually does. I'm impressed that they've finally gotten their power requirements and overheating problems under control.
We will wait, and see. If the upcoming drivers are as good as people say they are, we will quickly see a jump in performance. Only time will tell. :t
