Hey,

I have an Abit NF7-S motherboard with on-board SATA controller and the latest BIOS update. Tomorrow I'll get my new SATA HD, and it will replace my old IDE drive. I want to install Windows onto it, but I read somewhere that it's not so straightforward with a SATA drive as the Windows installation program won't recognize the drive (or the SATA controller).

Is this true? If so, what should I do? Thought I'd ask today to minimize my frustration tomorrow.

The motherboard came with a floppy with the SATA drivers on it. Boot from the XP CD and press F6 when you see the on-screen prompt. Insert the floppy when prompted and follow directions.

It's not that hard.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten about that floppy disk! I don't know what prompt you are referring to but I'll probably know it when I see it.

Aha, now I remember! It's been quite a while since I last installed XP :)
