I was tring to have Real Player install files for my MP3 player (MPIO FL100) when it said that system restore was turned off and I should turn it back on before proceding. I went to Control Panel/Ststem and clicked on System Restore and received the following message:

An exception error occurred while trying to run C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:Windows\system32\sysdm.cpl,System"

I searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base and coul find no matches. Any idea how serious this is, or better yrt, how do I repair it? I am running XP Professional.

Thanks

System Properties applet is the sysdm.cpl file.

It may be that this file is no longer there.

System Restore is a poor and unreliable brother of GoBack Deluxe from Symantec.

My advice would be to disable SR altogether, buy GoBack and use that instead when you make critical changes but disable it if not. That’s what I do.
