Ok. Here's my problem....

After restarting Windows 98 (First Edition) all the icons on my desktop are either black or invisible. And other icons (like when browsing 'My Computer' are either invisible or transparent. I've updated the video drivers and things are still the same. The video card is a voodoo 3 2000 and it is in 100% working condition.

The system has been running fine with this card for about 1 1/2 months (just incase you decide to blame it on something stupid).

You can download a proggie called TweakUI and ask it to repair the Icons or it may be in the Registry in which case go to DOS and do the following:

C:SCANREG/FIX
then
C:/SCANREG/OPT
then
C:WIN

TweakUI is in your control panel or you have to install it from your windoze disk or D/L it from Bill himself or get into dos and do what LED said or depending on how long ago this happened type "scanreg /restore" and use an older registry.(I like or's) /forum/smile.gif
Keep us posted.

I had a similar problem a few months back. There's a hidden file called shelliconcache that is basically a place for all of the icons to sit. On occasion it corrupts, causing problems like yours. Try deleting it and rebooting. It's replaced with a fresh copy. I hope this helps... Good luck.
