Having trouble setting up a K6-3 450 with FIC MOBO. K6-2 chip work fine. K6-3 crashes the system. In fact I can't install anything without a problem, including installing the operating system. But I can install using the K6-2 chip. Award bios, VIA Mvp3 chipset. I have tried three different chips, two different motherboards. Frustrated.

Is the board new? There was something I read about the earlier version of the PA2013 not being able to support a K6-3. I do not know if this applies in your case. Most likely it is just a voltage or some other configuration problem.
Q13) Which version of the PA-2013 can support the complete line of K6, K6-2, and K6-III CPU's?
A13) The VA-PA-2013 rev.2.0 with ECN 2636/3636/2638/3638 or "EO036" sticker can fully support the K6-2 /450, K6-2 /475, K6-III 400, and K6-III 450. You can find the ECN number printed on a white sticker along the edge of the board or on the gray sticker outside of the box (i.e. E:4503). The "EO036" sticker is also placed on the board and outside of the box.
Q14) Can the earlier revisions of the PA-2013 support the new K6-2 and K6-III CPU's?
A14) Sorry, the earlier revisions the PA-2013, or earlier release of the PA-2013 2.0 will not be able to support the K6-2 /450 and above, or the K6-III CPU's. Only boards with ECN 2636/3636/2638/3638 or "EO036" sticker will support the complete line of K6, K6-2, and K6-III CPU's.
Q15) Where can I find the ECN number for the PA-2013?
A15) The ECN number is printed on a white sticker along the edge of the board. You can also find this number on a gray sticker outside of the box (i.e. E:2636)
