Does it matter what pci slot I run my DVD decoder card in? I have heard that PCI slot 2 has an AGP acceleration feature. Should I place the card in this slot. Does it make a difference.
system:
Pentium II 350
DVD-Rom Panasonic
Intel 440bx MB
Diamond Viper770 Ultra AGP Video Card
Mpact DVD decoder card
Maxtor 8 gig HD
ISA 56k US Rob. WINMODEM
128 meg ram

Well, from most of the replies I've been reading on this board, I've been told that the first pci slot next to the agp slot is a shared slot, and not to use it...if you have any problems using this first slot, don't use it unless you have to...my 2 cents...

Not using that one. Couldn't even if I wanted to. The fan on my Viper keeps things away from that pci slot. I was told that slot 2 has some sort of connection with the agp bus acceleration. That's why I was courious if I should stick my decoder card in that slot to help speed up the cards abilities and improve on my DVD performance.
Anyone??? /forum/wink.gif

Same response as Andrew... if it has any connection, it's probably some type of resource that the cards might need... and placing them near each other will have no performance increase and may end up decreasing performance when a conflict pops up... seems to happen to some people...

I am using a slot 2 now, have no problems. Had to use it, the pass through cable requires it (too short).Hope that helps
