When I click on the "system" applet in control panel, nothing happens. No error messages, no lockups, Windows just politely ignores me! Ran SFC with no problems, Norton can't find anything- I'm stumped. No other problems of any kind, just can't access system info. Anyone got any ideas? I'm running out of hair to pull out! /forum/smile.gif

What happens when you right click on 'My Computer'?

Hi David,
Right clicking on "my computer" produces the drop down window for open, explore, etc. Even if I use that route to try to access "system", it's a no-go. This one has me stumped- the computer doesn't crash or anything, it just acts like normal, without giving me the system menu.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

It sounds like it could be a registry/TweakUI thing; if you have TweakUI installed, check under Control Panel tab, and make sure the box is checked for System Control Panel.cpl (I'm hoping the terms correct, not at home and trying to "remember" but they're close if not exact)
You may also want to try the Repair tab (TweakUI) and Repair System Files and Repair Registry. Hope it helps.

What happens when you press win95-key&Pause/Break key?
This should bring it up otherwise socalgal has the next thing to try.

giant- I pressed those keys and nothing happened. Again, my OS politely ignores me /forum/wink.gif
socalgal- I'm not familiar with TweakUI, do you know where I can get it?
This is getting spooky- I'd hate to have to reload the system because of this... /forum/frown.gif
Thanks for the ongoing help everyone!

Win98 Disc ?:\tools\reskit\powertoy\tweakui.inf
From the Start/Run - Type sfc and enter.
This will check your system files for errors.

Success!!!
Seems I had a corrupted file associated with my HP printer- WinDoctor missed it, but NDD found it. Fixed the file & all is well in the land of the Lost /forum/smile.gif
Can't figure out how a printer file could do something like that, but that's Windoze...
Giant & Socalgal- thanks for the info, I'll load Tweak & check it out.
Many thanks to all! /forum/biggrin.gif
