(This sounds like it would be a multidisciplinary thread, someone must know better than me which is the best category for it)

Ok we all know Google.com is great. It might be the one thing that everyone on the planet agrees with.

So my question is, will it continue seeing greater and greater success until it eclipses and shames what importance big blue and billy g's little corp had at their height? And beyond?

It looks like they're integrating everything that's useful on the web... Google already does your basic search, unit conversion, dictionary, and recently they've unveiled a very impressive driving directions implementation. If you've used mapquest, you already know how to use the google one, but there are other advantages that just blow my mind. See for yourself (click more, and maps at google.com) Like the romans they seem to be taking great ideas and refining them. Seems like there's no stopping them!

Maybe as dutiful capitalists we should invest in their success? But I don't know. I saw a very animated stock analyst-type talkshow host sing its praises, emphasizing crazy high growth rate. He made me laugh, but all the same he also made me think...

Blah. Google is exploding in front of your faces and you don't even care!?

I guess while it seemed like a question of many topics to me, what it actually is is NOT a web development question.

Although I was going to offer for discussion some advanced features like the customizability using the XML and stuff. I read a forum a while ago about search engine mechanics and it got me all thinking about the whole topic of research tools and techniques specially suited for the web. Gotta find that bookmark...

Has anyone here ever worked on a custom google interface thingajig? Or maybe like a Flash-based interface!

Google for "Google Map Hack" (http://www.google.com/search?q=google+map+hack)

You'll find some innovative "hacks" for the google map. It's interesting in the sense that goolge implements a technology, and people immediately tweak it to use it for things that Google probably never dreamed of.

As far as Google "the Company" goes, they'll be successful as long as they keep providing services that people use. Seems pretty obvious, but I don't see them bailing anytime soon unless they take some huge risk and totally turn their goals around.

Their GMail certainly does an awesome job of tying your 'anonymous' google cookie to an email address, making it, err, not anonymous. They are swine. Talented, spook-like swine, but still swine. ;)

One more interesting thing I just remembered: If you browse to google with lynx, and refuse all cookies, google dumps you into its Belgian version...
