Anyway, I hooked up my Lan using a NetGear network starter kit.. after a bit of fiddling, the network neighbour hood (sharing files and printers) and IPX games (Starcraft, etc) work just great.

However, the real purpose I got it for was to share the net access. I have dailup right now, which isn't very optimal for the job, but cable's here in a month or 2 anyway..

now.. onto my problem

I set my Cel 400, TNT2, etc computer to be the server... and the one downstairs (p133, etc, still runs Starcraft fine though /forum/smile.gif) as a client...

the diagnostics are just fine when I run them on the server.. and I can see all the computers and stuff through Sygate.. but I can't get the client to use the internet. I did the ping tests. THe computers can ping each other through tcp/ip but the client cannot.

Also, when I run the diagnostic on the client, I get a FAIL from the server's network card.. I've tried reinstalling the tcp/ip drivers.. I've read the trouble shooting..

anyone got any ideas what might be causing the problem?

It's not a physical hardware problem, or even a driver prob, I don't think, as sharing and games work just fine, like I said /forum/smile.gif

Med,

One thing that comes to mind with the "local network" working (you say they see each other thru the network neighborhood). is to check your configuration of Internet explorer.....1 click on "tools" 2. "internet options" 3. "connections" 4. "lan settings" and then place a check mark in "Automaticly detect settings" click "OK" and exit out shut down the client and reboot. make sure your internet connection is working on the "server" and then launch the browser on the client machine. The first time you run it under the new config it might take up to 5 minutes for it to search all the ports for the internet connection!

Good Luck. Let us know what you tried and we will continue to try and help!

Well, I finally got it working..

for some reason, stopping then starting the client got it to work.. go figure.. by default it was already running..

oh well. it worked.. I don't ask why.. that's the important part.

And I did the port adjustments on ICQ on the client, seems to work fine now (when ICQ is on both computers, different ICQ #'s though)

WIthout the port adjustments it just had trouble with detecting some people were online..
